and attended the funeral of Miss Allie
Leighton, the unfortunate young
woman who was killed by the Dallas
train at Briedwell, Sunday night.

W. G. Cox, of Portland, was in the
city Sunday, advertising the newly

have cut it into small orchard tracts,
which are selling rapidly.
A crowded house greeted the local
company in "Hick'ry Farm," Satur
day night, and every minute was one
of interest and pleasure. This was the
second performance to be given by
this company of local young people
and as a testimony of the former
play, the house was filled to the limit
of its capacity. Mrs. J. S. Conrter,
under whose direction the play was
given, has demonstrated an unusual
ability as an instructor and director.
Dr. F. M. Hellworth, of Dallas, was
in the city Wednesday. The doctor
has rented rooms over the postoflice
and will move to Falls City about

, Franklin A. Link, a well known and
highly respected resident of Polk
County, died at his home near Lewis
ville,.May 5, 1910, aged 77 years, 10 .
months and 13 days.
Mr. Link was born in Germany, Oc
tober 23, 1832. He came to America
with his parents in 1840 and located
in Washington County, Pennsylvania,
where he was married in 1856 and
moved to Ohio. Two sons were born
to this union. One of the sons, George
C. Link, is still living, Demg a icst-
dent of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania..
Mr. Link married again in lt4, nis
second wife being Mary L. Frazier.
Seven children were born to them.
Two of these have passed away, leav
ing a wife, two sons and four daugh
ters to mourn his departure.
Mr. Link came to Oregon in 187G
and lived on his Luckiamute farm up
to the time of his death. He was well
and favorably known. The high es
teem in which he was held by his
friends and neighbors was demon
strated bv the large concourse of peo
ple that attended the funeral. The
Reverend E. E. McVicker officiated at
the house, and the burial service was
concluded by the Masonic order. Ho
was laid to rest in the cemetery South
of Monmouth.
