Little Interest Is manifested In anv quarter in the annual city election to be held next Monday and a light vote is anticipated. In only one ward is there more than one candidate for councilman, and as the time for fil ing nominating petitions has expired, It is highly probable that the lone can didates thus nominated will have no opposition at the polls. The candidates who have filed petitions are: First Ward H. L. Fenton. Second Ward W. V. Fuller. Third Wurd E. C. Klrkpatrick and W. H. Gaynor. Two measures will be placed on the ballot for adoption or rejection by the voters. One Is a proposal to bond the outstanding sewer warrant indebt edness and a portion of the rock crusher indebtednesb at a lower rate of Interest, and the other to create a road district out of the territory em braced in the city limits and to take the collection of road tax out of the hands of the county. The body of the late Wesley R Craven was brought to Dallas. Tues- "ay night. On Wednesday night, the Impressive midnight funeral service of the Scot tish Rite Masons was held in the M. E. Church. Notwithstanding the late ness of the hour, the large church was filled with sorrowing friends. The service was conducted by Scottish Rite Masons from Salem and Dallas, as follows: Judge F. A. Moore, Judge William R. King, Judge George H. Burnett Dr. H. A. Olinger, Hal D. Patton, George G. Bingham, F. K. Lovell, Oscar Hayter and W. V. Full er. The pallbearers were D. J. Ttllov Conrad Stafrln, E. C. Kirknatrlck. rr MarK Hayter, Walter Williams and .T C. Hayter. Yesterday afternoon a funeral ser. vice conducted by Jennings Lodge, No. 9, A. F. & A. M., was held in the church. This service was held In ac cordance with a request made by Mr. Craven many years ago. The officers and members of the lodge marched to the church in a body, the pallbear ers being W. V. Fuller, Dr. Mark Hay ter, Walter Williams, E. C. Kirkpat rlck, Oscar Hayter and D. J. Riley. A touching and eloquent sermon was preached by the Rev. M. E. Spahr, pastor of the church, and music was furnished by a select choir consisting of Mrs. C. G. Coad, Mrs. D. M. Metz ger, Mr. R. E. Williams and Mr. F. H. Morrison, with Miss Olive Smith at the organ. The casket was roverpd with a wealth of floral offerings, among them being many handsome emblematical designs. Gilson has purchased through the Jacobson Land Company the farm of Mrs. Carmlchael near Perrydale for a consideration of $10,000. This is one of the best farms In Polk Coun ty and Mr. Gilson Is of the opinion that he has secured a great bargain. Will Play First Base. Carl Fenton, of Dallas, was in the city visiting friends and relatives Sat urday and Sunday. Carl has signed up to play first base for the McMinnville ball team this year. Smith, in Salem, Wed nesday. Buford Stone, a leading farmer and stockman of the Buell neighborhood, was a business visitor In Dallas yes terday. J. L. Hanna, a prominent hop raiser of the Independence district, was a business visitor in Dallas several days this week. J. Bagley, a prosperous farmer of the Lucklamute country, was a bus! ness visitor at the county seat the first of the week. Dr. C. W. Lowe, the well-known optician, was In Dallas on one of his regular professional visits Wednesday and yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sundberg, of Marquette, . Michigan, accompanied by their daughter, are visiting their son, C. B. Sundberg. Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Akin and family, of Falls City, were in town Wednes day for a few hours, enroute to their old home In the East. James Charlton, ex-sheriff of Linn County, passed through town Wednes day for Black Rock, where he will vis It his grandson, Otto Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Holt Stockton will leave this morning for Sheridan, .where they will reside in future. Mr. and Mrs. Stockton made many friends during their brief stay In Dallas. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Fouch, of Falls City, passed through town Wednes day enroute for their old home In Michigan, where they will visit friends and relatives this summer. Mrs. Nancy Hubbard, a pioneer res ident of Polk County, and widow of the late Gold Hubbard, Is visiting her cousin. Mrs. Joseph Savery, and other relatives and friends in Dallas Mrs. Hubbard's present home in on a fine farm 18 miles from Colfax, Wash ington, . Edgar L. Collins came up from Portland Wednesday and went out to Falls City yesterday to visit his fath er, Judge J. L. Collins, whose leg was recently broken by a frightened horse. Judge Collins Is reported to be steadily Improving, and it Is hoped that he will soon regain the entire use of the Injured limb. Hon. T. J. Hayter arrived home Tuesday evening from a two weeks' stay at Collins Springs, Washington. His son, Eugene, who accompanied him to the springs is rapidly Improv ing from the effects of a several months' attack of Inflammatory rheu matism and hopes to return home within the next ten days completely restored to health. Miss Edna Gilbreatli Becomes Bride of F. P. Caldwll. Mr. F. P. Caldwell and Miss Edna L. Gllbreath were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Gllbreath, at 788 Tlb- betts street, Portland, Oregon, Wed nesday. March 80, 1910, at noon. The Rev. Smith, pastor of Trinity Metho dist Episcopal Church, was the offici ating clergyman. The groom waa until recently local agent of the Wells-Fargo express company In Dallas. He has just been appointed to the responsible position of money clerk in the new American express office, soon to be opened in Portland. Mr. Caldwell first met his bride-to- be in Denlson, Iowa, and the wedding on Wednesday was the happy culmi nation of a courtship that began in that city several years ago. Mrs. Cald well is a charming and talented young woman and has many friends in her new home in Portland. The young people will make their home in Portland and will begin housekeeping in a few days. New Woodman Camp. A few enthusiastic Woodman at Back Rock, led by T. B. Masters, are soliciting members fpr a new camp to be organised at that place. It la be lieved that the new camp will start off with a membership of 15 or 40 choppers. Sundberg Buys Interest. C. B. Sundberg, the enterprising owner of the Independent telephone exchange In Dallas, has purchased an interest In the Falls City exchange, which Is to be enlarged and improved at once. IN CUPID'S REALM Painful Accident. J. L. Castle was the victim of a painful and annoying accident at his home in this city Wednesday. While splitting wood, a portion of the stick struck him Just above the left eye and Inflicted a heavy bruise. Mr. Cas tle's face is badly discolored and the pain in the region of his left eye Is Intense, but he Is congratulating him self that he escaped as fortunately as he did. A dispatch in Tuesday's Evening Telegram says: The largest consign ment of whiskey ever received in Mar lon County arrived today by the Southern Pacific for a liquor company of this city. Seventy-five barrels were unloaded, amounting to $6000. This liquor will be distributed to Bmall towns throughout the country. Riley Building Finished. The Riley warehouse building on Washington street is completed with the exception of hanging" the large en trance doors. The structure is being used as a storehouse by the Adams Brobst Company. The firm already has large line of buggies, wagons and farm implements stored in the new building. New Agent Buys Home. J. L. Braden, the new local agent of the Wells-Fargo express company, haa purchased the Roy Webb place south of town. Mr. Braden and family will make their home on this beauti ful suburban tract. The deal waa con summated by the Jacobson Land Com pany. "Slleti Cases to Be Heard. The Supreme Court of the District of Columbia on Thursday overruled motion of the Interior Department to dismiss ll'Slletz cases and sustained the motion by A. W.
