Mrs. Jennie Eastman, of Seattle, is visiting at the home of her aunt, Mrs I. M. Palmer, this week. She will leave tomorrow for a short stay in Portland after which she will return to her home city. W. V. Fuller returned home Wed nesday from an extended stay at his big mining holdings in Inyo county, California. After visiting for a few weeks with his family, Mr. Fuller will return to California. Citv Engineer Morrison is making preliminary surveys for grading and excavation on Church and Wash ington street, preparatory to sur facing with a coat of macadam. A street cleaning campaign was inaugurated in the business section of this eitv Wednesday, and for several hours, men were hard at work clearing the rubbish from the streets iu front of their business establish ments. Construction work on the Dallas Salem branch of the Salem, Falls City & Western railroad is being pushed forward with greatest activity, ana there is little doubt but the work will be completed by the beginning of the Fall season. L. Gerlinger, Jr. has recently become the possessor of a fine touring car. The machine was purchased in Port land last week and brought up to Dallas, Sunday. It is one of the handsomest and most powerful machines owned in this city. It is reported that the strawberry nroD for the coming season will be considerably Impaired by the recent frosts that have come in this vicinity, the blossoms in several of the large strawberry patcheshavingbeen nearly all shrivelled and destroyed. The work of gathering in the mo- hairof the 1909 pool of the Polk County Mohair Association is nearly com pleted and practically all of the mohair has been weighed in at the various shipping places in the county ap pointed by H. L. Fenton, who is Hand ling the work of assembling and ship ping the pool this year. Mr. Feuton urges all mohair growers to weigh in their product before the end of this week, so that the business' may be wound up as soon as possible. At the time of the sale of tne pool last Tuesday it was estimated that it would amount to about 60,000 pounds. This estimate was based on tne size oi the 1908 pool which was about 45,000. At the time of its sale, however, no definite figures could be secured con cerning the 1909 pool, on which a certain estimate of its size could be based. The welshing in last week shows that the pool contains between 75,000 and 80,000 pounds over 50 per cent more than the estimate made earlier in the season. Compared witb this enormouB pool, the smaller ones sold recently in Hillsboro, Solo and otner nlnnes. ranging from 4000 to 8000 pounds, appear insignificant. The mohair has been weighed in at seven different shipping points in Polk countv. from which It will De sent direct to Portland. The places of weighing in and the amountof mohair (approximately) received at each point are as follows : Airlie, 22,000 pounds Sheridan, 25,000 pounds; Dallas, 20.000 pounds: Amity, 5000 pounds Monmouth, 2000 pounds; Ballston, 1000 pounds; Perrydale, 1000 pounds. Domes Herd Ranks High. A. F. Domes, a prominent stock breeder of McCoy, says in a recent letter concerning bis herd, written to the Paclflo Homestead: "We are proud of the cowa we have under Yearly Authenticated Test and the rest of our herd also. The two cows and seven heifers we have on test now averaged 60.7591 lbs. of 85 per cent butter last month. One 2-year-old made a record of 1243 lbs. 7 ozs. milk and 92.743 lbs. of butter, another one, 2 years, 5 months old, made 1272 lbs 10 ozs. milk and 83.9916 lbs. of butter.
