Lee, of Multnomah County. F. J. Mil lor, of Linn County. A. C. Marstera, of Douglas County. II. R. Butler, of Gilliam County. In the visit of the farming demon stration train to Dallas and Indepen dence, the farmers of Polk couDty will be given an opportunity to take advan tage, temporarily at least of the talent of the specialists who are serving as instructors in the State Agricultural College, and it is an opportunity that should be lost by none. On Friday, November G, the train will stop In Dal las between 11 o'clock a. rn. and 12 :45 and In Independence, between 1 :50 and 3 :25 p. m. Even if we grant that the main issue of the cumpaign is an Issue of men and not platform (which it Is not); and even if we admit that in personal character and Integrity, Mr. Bryan and Mr. Taft stand equal (which is probably true) ; tho fact remains that Mr. Taft has benind him a long, clear record of achievment in tho steadfust and faithful service of his country, while Mr. Bryan has nothing. THE CAUTION OF GEORGE. BY DEAX COLLIXS. Over this whole broad country The campaigo is waxing hot. And each side figures it's got it While the other side figures it's not; Though Democrats yearningly call him. In vain do they worry and chafe, For George, standing off on the side lines, Is cautiously playing safe. For though he may love Mr. Bryan, More deeply tie worries Dis neal Attending the spreading of butter upon ueorge fc. cnamoeriain s bread. I' So vainly the Democrats call him, So vainly they grumble and grump, They may storm, they may roar, They may beg and implore. l$ut ne win not go onto tne stHmp. The White House looks, lovely to Bryan, But fairer to George E. appears The long flowing toga he's yearned for For anvhow eight or ten years ; So vainly the Democrats call him Ho vainly tney splutter ana nzz. For George can't go boosting for Bryan And rink that long toga of his. Oh, Georgemay still lovehisold party; His old party still may love him ; But George cannot boost William Jennings And let his own prospects grow dim ; on-partisan, calm and inactive, Though Bryan s high hopes may all slump, With statesmanlike craft He keeps out of the draft By refusing to go on the stump. TEA We sell tons ol poor stuff: but our name isn't on it. Go by the name. Your grocer returns your money If you doa't Ilia Schilling's Beit: we pay hia. BUSINESS LOCALS. f Advertisements under thin head are chanred at tiie rate of 1 cent per word, (iral insertion ; cent per word tor each insertion thereafter; .10 wonlsoriesa.fi per monm. rw auveruaeuieu inserted for less than 15 cents. Fierures count as one word. For instance, the numeral combinaiion ' JiiO counts as one I word . Two initials count an one word, ror instance, ".l. M. JoiR-s" counts its two words. Th minimum rhririre In for l words: that is, an advertisement from 1 word to 13 words is counted as .t words; an advertisement from 16 to JO words, inclusive, is counted as aj woros from "Jl to 25 words, is counted as 2ft words, etc. Tn. rinrwi fnllnwiMi? the advertisement indi cate how long it is to run. and are not charged to the customer. For instance, :Kll-2t indicates that the advertisement was hrst pubiisnea on March 31. and that it is to be inserted twice. The figures and letters 4-1-tl indicate that the Advertisement was nrst nub is bed Anril 1 ana that it is to be run until the customer orders it discontinued. Non-partisan, calm and Inactive, He sleeps through the combat's mild roar; The Democrats call his response is A gentle mellifluous snore. He heeds not their call unto action, Though Bryan's whole outlook falls dead George stirs not he knows whence the butter Hath come, that hath buttered his bread. For George E. may love William Jen- nine. And William, forsooth, may love him, But If be relies on assistance From George, then his chances are slim, For Chamberlain's Care and his Cau tion Outweigh his Benevolent bump He bates to be rude, But he must play it shrewd.
