Polk County Observer ALLGOOD & COLLINS LESSEES Publl.hed Semi-Weekly at 1.50 per Year. Strictly In Advance. Entered aa Becond claM matter March 1. 1907. at the iwat office at ballai, Oregon, under the Act of Courrces ot March 3, 1879. DALLAS, OREGON, October 23, 1908. The way to build up Dallas is to pat ronize Dallas people. OUR NATIONAL TICKET. For President, William H. Taft, of Ohio. For Vice-President, James S. Sherman, of New York. Presidential Electors J. D. Leo, of Multnomah Couoty. F. J. Miller, of Linn County. A. C. Marsters, of Douglas County, It. K. Rutler, of Gilliam County. The registration books of Polk county closed Tuesday with still only two persons registered as Populiafs in the entire county. How hath that noble party dwindled in the past twelve years 1 Notwithstanding the fact that the present campaign has been preemi nently "the dull campaign" in Oregon things are beginning to warm up a trifle all over tho state and the prospects are good for tho awakoning of some of the real old-tlmo enthusiasm among the supporters of both of the principal tickets. Governor Chamberlain now says that he will not go on tho stump for liryan during this campaign he is non-partisan. Tho consistency with which ho plays his political hand out to the end is at least commendable. We might have been led to believe that the ruse by which he gained the popular vote for Senator In tho Juno election was after all, nothing but a ruso, had he dropped it at this stago of the gaino. To you, who are naturally careful, it does not come high. It Is economical because it can be quickly turned off wnen not needed. With gas or kerosene there is the temptation to let light burn when not needed to save bother of lighting and adjusting. In some homes the electric light bills amount to only one or two dollars per month. You can probably get some kind of artificial light for less money than electrio light, but does it save you anything when it limits op portunities for work and recreation ruins your eyesight smokes your walls mars decorations and increases household work. You could probably save a dollar tomorrow by going without your meals but it wouldn t be economy. It is not so much what you save, but how you save that counts. WILLAMETTE VALLEY CO.
