The children have worked harder this year than ever before in preparation for tbe big event, they have entered a larger and more typical array of exhibits aad it is only right that the patrons of tbe county's schools should show their appreciation of the child-; reu'g work by sending a larger num ber of vIsltorBlfrom every district than has been sent to any of the previous events. Ireland, de- cared to smoke, acd a pleasant hair hour was spent in telling stories and giving toasts. Lieutenant Brown acted as toast master, and in bis selection of speakers, shrewdly chose for tbe main part, those who had met with amusing experiences while at the summer en campment at American Lake. The tale of Private Griffith aDd bis search for 50 vardsof skirmish line and many others eiuallv amusine were told, and at the close of the toasting, J. C, fglow, a veteran of the Spanish-Amer ican War and one of the guests of honor, entertained the men with a few of his Philippine experiences. Both officers and men are highly pleased with the success of the smoker, which is the first social event held by the company since its organization and it is anticipated that tbe Notional Guardsmen of Dallas will prove them selves an important factor in the social activities of the coming season. BUTLER Mr. Bryan, throughout his whole public career, has played the purl of a political tboorlst and experimenter. Scarcely a scheme has ho adopted that he has net within a short timo oither modified or repudiated. With an eyo to bo dazzled by "glittering gener alities," in) has lacked the keen insight to detect minor and frequently fatal Haws In doctrines that at first reading or hearing, Beemed wonder fully good. Hence his long course of "uulllug and trying" iu the formula tion of his somewhat elastic policy, grasping that which at first glance seemed good to him and dropping It like a hot coal when ho discovered Imperfections la It, Irequently casting aside that which was In reality good, because he lacked continuity of pur pose to weed out its impel lections and trim away Its awkward off-shoots. It It Is no more than could be exected, In view of his methods of procedure in the past, that he should turn for proof in support of bis new Idol, tho system of "bank guaranties," to the state of Oklahoma, a state that is itseir scarcely more than an experiment as yet, and where the system on w hich tbe 'Teerlohs One" is pinning his faith so firmly, has not been In action long enough for anyone to siiy with certainty whether or not It Is a sue oeasful method. Mr. Bryan's going to Oklahoma to get his theories on lb proper banking system of the government, is about on a par with tbe wisdom a milliner would show if he should Ignore the latest and most perfect styles In Parisian creations nil should look to the Saudwich Islands as the real authority on bats. THt PENALTY OF OVERWORK Many Dallas Readers Find Toll A Dally Burden. The heavy Ux ol overwork the strain upon tbe back that is so common to many trades and occupations, ia too great, the kidneys begin to fail in their work, and there is a double danger to health. The poisonous matter collects in tne system, and the kidneys them selves beuin to break down. Pain in the back is only a warning of trouble in the kidneys. An inflammation has set in, and a disordered condition of the urine soon becomes apparent. Too much or too little urine, with a constant desiie to void the secretions; any notice- .Auie deviation irom tbe normal color; the appearance o( a sandy sediment, proves s Unordered condition of the kid neys thst needs quick attention. If voor work seems bard for yon, if you have a lame, weak or aching back, if you seem Ured and listless, arid seem to be running down without apparent cause, becm at once with Doan's Kid. ney Pills, the great kidney reaoedv that has cured so many of your neighbors.
