F, Jones, of Independence, was in Dallas this morning and filed an injunction to prevent the County Court from taking any further steps toward enforcing the prohibition law, reqently passed by the voters of Polk County, within the corporate limits of Independence. The case will come up before Circuit Judge William Galloway in Salem tomorrow for hear ing. 1 The contest will be made along similar lines to those used in securing the Medford injunction, - it being claimed that the charter of the city of Independence was passed after the state prohibition law had been enacted, and that the state law is nullified as far as that particular locality is concern ed, by certain provisions of the char ter whioh place the regulation of the sale of liquor entirely within the juris diction of the city. MANY FRIENDS IN ASHLAND Address of Former President of Southern Normal Receives High Praise. ' The address of Hon. B. F. Mulkey, former President of the Ashland Nor mal School, at the recent commence ment exercises of that institution, re ceives the following complimentary mention In the Ashland Tidings : "The address to the' class was delivered by Hon. B. F. Mulkey, nominally of Jacksonville, but really claimed by Ashland as one of its rep resentative citizens. The distinguished speaker addressed no unknown con stituency. He appeared amid familiar surroundings on this auspicious occa sion, and his remarks to the beauty and culture of the class of 1908 reflected sentiments which cannot prove other than an inspiration. From previous rich - experience along educational lines, he is eminently well qualified to discuss matters pertaining to both common as well as the higher educa-1 tioo, and his remarks were most happily received by faculty, students, and a host of attentive listeners." Praises Street Fair. Monday's Salem Statesman gave the following flattering notice of the Street Fair held in Dallas last week : "The Cherry Fair committee which went to Dallas to invite the Polk county people to co-operate In making the big fair in this city the best that ever happened, report that they were received with open arms and that Polk would send a large delegation to take part in the Cherry Fair. They found that a very creditable and excellent fair was in progress. The members of the committee have only words of praise and appreciation for the plucky and enterprising city in Polk county. They say that her street illumination was the most creditable seen anywhere in a town of its size. In fact the. city was all aglow with lights." J. G. VanOrsdel and family and 'Mrs. J. P.
