'There is more business in tbe conn
try now than there was in 1906," said
Mr. Blakeley. "No complaint was
heard then, for everybody was happy.
The traffic carried now Is considerably
over that of 1906 and VM5. I do not
think anyone will expect business to
keep up to what it was last year. We
will probably get back to it some time,
but there is a limit to tbe length of
time that business can go on increas
ing 20 to 30 per cent in a year. There
has got to be a stop sometime. Traffic
cannot continue indefinitely at tbe
peak Tbe wave is bound to recede.
'These things are not to be ex
plained. Business seems to follow no
known rules. Immigration to tbe West
is tne same way in a sense, rot a
aerios of four or five years there will
be a heavy movement to tbe Pacific
Coast by settlers. Then for the follow
ing few years, with conditions prao
ticaiiy tne same, bardly any new
settlers will come. I do not know any
reason for it any more than for these
let-ups in business.
"There's nothing the matter with
this country. We are getting back on
our feet again and are gonerally
prosperous. Business Is bound to
low up at times, hut tbe pendulum
will swing the other way lust us
certainly."

road then, and you want
your rig to look as good as
any, of course. A new set

Where did you go so early this morning, Mrs. Wise?
I was down to HALL & HAYES to get one of those
Silk Floss Mattresses
they make. They are strictly all floss and each bed
guaranteed, and they have the most complete line of
Carpets, Rugs, Matting, Lace Curtains, etc. in the
city. And say, those Couches they make are just
simply grand. And they said they, would not be
beat on prices.

Electricity for Lighting
Is only expensive to people who are
- wasteful and careless. To yon, who
are naturally careful, it does not
come high.
It is economical because It can be quickly turned off wnen not needed.
With gas or kerosene there Is the temptation to let llprht burn when
not needed to save bother of lighting and adjustinflt.' In some homes
the electric light bills amount to only one or two dollars per month,
lou can probubly get some kind of artificial light for less money
than electric light, but does It save you anything when it limits op
portunities for work and recreation ruins your eyesightsmokes
your walls mars decorations and increases household work. You
could probably save a dollar tomorrow by going without your meals
but It wouldn't be economy. It la not so much what you save, but
how you save that counts. '
