Smith issued license to wed last week to Petor Dyck and Mrs. Leona Canfield and to Everett Wilson and Miss Lillian M. Hanson. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Belt, of Independence, has filed his petition for nomination as a candi date for the office of County Treasurer of Polk County, on the Democratic ticket. E. W. Kearns, manager of the Dal las branch of the Willamette Valley Electric Company, returned Sunday from a few days' business visit in Portland. D. N. Morris, of Turner, has pur chased about 60 acres of farm land near Independence, and will make his home there in future. He is a brother of C. H. Morris, of this city. Albert Stafrln and family, of Utica, Nebraska, arrived in Dallas, Satur day evening and will make their home in this city in future. , Mr. Stafrin is a brother of Conrad Stafrin. During the past month a large quan tity of laths have been manufactured at the sawmill of the Willamette Val ley Lumber Company, for immediate shipment to eastern markets. The Rev. A. A. Winter arrived from Portland this morning and is attend ing the meeting of the trustees of Dallas College and tbo Evangelical Conference held in this city this week. ' The school meeting for the section including the districts of Pioneer, Salt Creek, Upper Salt Creek, Concord, Enterprise and Ballston will be held at Salt Creek next Saturday, April 4. Friday was the last day for filing petitions for placing names on the primary ticket for state, congressional and district offices. Secretary of State Benson kept his office open until mid night for the purpose of receiving petitions and a number came in on late trains.
