The fifteenth annual State Inter
collegiate Oratorical contest was held
la the Normal assembly room in Mon
mouth, Friday evening. The contest
waa one of unusual merit, the orations
being of more than ordinary finish,
and each orator showing careful work
and preparation. The trend of thought
was not of the pyrotechnic order, but
displayed a knowledge of conditions
and a free discussion of the various
phases of the affairs of today. The
decision of the judges in awarding
first place to the University of Oregon
met tho approval of all.
A banquet was spread in the gym
nasi u m after the contest, where covers
had been laid for 160 people. Here
the college songs, toasts and jollifl
cations wore indulged in until the
early hours. An orchestra of 15 pieces
furnished the music and added much
to the evening's pleasure. The bos
puame nomes or monmouth. were
thrown open to the visitors, and every
guest was given a warm welcome.
