B. F. JONES FILES PETITION.
Hon. B. F, Jones has decided to
become a candidate for re-election to
tbe office of Joint Representative for
Polk and Lincoln counties, and will
file his petition with Secretary of State
Benson at once. Hs declares his
unwavering allegiance to Statemen
No. 1, and announces his intention
continue the fight for State or National
ownership of tbe Locks at Oregon
(Jlty. Mr. Jones' platform is as fol
lows :
"The Direct Primary law having
passed by a vote of 66,850 against
16.354, and believing in the doctrine
that the people know what they want,
1 desire to say to tbe peoplo of Oregon,
as well as of my Legislative district,
tnat during my term of office I will
always vote for the candidate for
United States Senator in Congress
who shall have received the highest
number of the peoples' votes for that
position at the general election next
preceding the election of a Senator In
Congress, without regard to my Indi-
viaimi preference.
"If nominated and elected I will,
during my term of office, stand for
Tns Just regulation of all transpor
tation ;
Equable assessment and taxation of
property ;
State or National ownership of the
Locks at Oregon City, and
The improvement of all navigable

Mr. Jones has served two terms In
the Oregon Legislature, and has
proven himself one of the most active
and Influential members of that)
body. His successful flaht for onon
locks at Oregon City a light which he
carried on almost single handed and
alone against the power of corporate
wealth was the most brilliant victory
won ny any legislator In the last bos

Oregon's law-making body.
At the meeting of tbe Athletic Com
mittee of Dallas College, held Tues
day evening, it was decided to grant
two games to tbe basketball team from
Muscatine, Iowa, one on Thursday,
March 6, and tbe second on the follow
ing night Friday, March 6. During
the extended tour in which it is now
engaged, the Muscatine aggregation
has played 63 games, winnings and
losing only 9 a truly remarkably
record. The twogames with our local
team promise to be exceedingly fast
and Interesting. Tickets will be placed
on sale at Belt & Cberrington's not
later than next Tuesday.

According to apparently reliable
reports In the Portland newspapers,
millions of dollars will be siieiit in the
construction or elnctrlo roads In the
Willamette Valley within the next year
or two. as planned, the projects will
require more than 150 miles of stand-ard-gaugo
railway, embracing a main
line from Portland to Corvallis, with
laterals to Dallas and other points.
Whether this project materializes, or
not,theday Is not far distant when the
Willamotte Valley will ba covered with
a network of trolley lines. The com
pletion of the elect rlo roud to Sulein nn
the East Side and the partial construc
tion of the line to IlilUhora on the
West Side is only the beginning of the
movement to bring every portion of
the valley Into closer touch with the
metropolis of Oregon.
