Entered m lecond-clut matter Mirch 1, 1907, It the post office at Dallas, Oregon, under the Act of CongreM of March , 1879. DALLAS, OREGON, JarOaET 3, 1908. The way to build up Dallas ts to aU ronize Dallas people. BUSINESS LOCALS. Dr. Hayter. Dentist. Office over Wilson's Drug Store. Dallas. Oregon COURT HOUSE NOTES DALLAS' PROSPERITY. The receipts of the Dallas poatofBee, according to the report of Postmaster C. G. Coad, amounted to $616.80 for the month of December, 1906, and to $918.85 for the corresponding month in 1907, making an Increase of $331.49, or more than 60 per cent. No truer insight into the progress and prosperity of our city could be gained from any other source, for a city's growth keeps pace with the Increase of its commercial intercourse with other cities, and the truest criterion of this commercial develop ment is the growth of Its mall service. Construed in their absolute signifi cance, these figures mean that the business transactions of Dallas with other cities were 0 per cent greater during the month just past than they were during the corresponding month j In 1906. Suoh a phenomenal increase may well be regarded with pride by the citizens of Dallas as Indicative of a growth that can scarcely be equalled by any of the cities of like size In tho Willamette Valley. The Angora goat raisers are making nctlvo preparations for their annual show, to be held In Dallas on January 16, 16 and 17. Including sheep and hogs In its exhibits, this Dallas show has perhaps done more than all other agencies combined to advertise Polk County as tho home of blooded live stock, and Dallas as tho center of tho Angora Industry in the United States. The show Is open to all Oregon breeders, and recognition by the American Angora Goat Breeders' Association has given it National standing and promlnenco. Secretary Fulton of the Amorlcan Association Is a loyal friend of the Dallas show, and it was through his efforts that over $700 was spent in behalf of the Oregon breeders last year. Mr. Fulton says tho show of last year was brought to the attention of practically every goat breeder In tho United Stales and Africa, and was far more widely advertised ,than any previous exhibit held In this country. In a recent letter to Soeretary Fonton he urged the itnportancoof tho breeders of Oregon and the merchants of Dallas making llboral provision for the expense of the coining show. The committee will begin their canvass for funds tomorrow, and are assurei of liberal donations from tho business mon. The newspapers of Oregon have always been friendly to tho Dallas goat show, and rooognlzlng the fact that Its promoters wore working for the common good and not for personal profit, have given liberally of their space In advertising tho show. This year the Oiihehvkk Is clipping nil ot this advertising from its exchanges, ami will turn It over to tho committee after the show. Theamouut of pub Uolty received rrom this source will prove a suprlso to tho management, and to the people of Dallas and Polk county as well. Wood For Sale. Do you Deed wood?
