Ycu Read Thi3 BUSH CRITICISES GOVERNOR. The interview of lion. A. Bush, the pioneer Salem banker, on the present financial situation, is the most luohl of any utterance yet published, says the Eugene Guard. To those who know the man. it will carry conviction uod they will heed his advice Mr. Hush is a bankerof the old school, honest con servative and clear-headed, who never allows his vaults to be depleted nor indulges in speculative investments, and when he tells the public to go ahead with its business and let this littlo Hurry have no more than a pass ing notice, he knows whereof he speaks. In brief, Mr. Hush says the Port land bankers induced the governor to do an unwise thing in proclaiming the special holidays, and that Oregon is prosperous and solid, requiring a largo volume of money for her enor mous crop movement, the shortage of cash in some of tlio bunks being for this reason, a sign ratbor of prosperity than the reverse. Tho Dallas Observer says: "It is doubtful If one voter in a dozen took time to road tho Initiative and Refer endum amendment beforo voting for it, and it is doubtful if any consider able number of them have read it slnoe." Is that an objection? It is doubtful if any considerable number of voters have read the constitution of Oregon, or tho constitution of the United States, but is that u reason for abandoning cither? Not one person in a thousand has read the Itible through ; but is that a sufficient reason to destroy It, and to kick tho wholo system of Christianity overboard? Portland Journal. After having been on the road for nearly two months, the rock crusher purchased by tho Dallas city council arrived from Fort Wayne, Indiana, on last night's freight train. With it came the big steam road roller, also purchasad by the city. The ponderous machinery was unloaded near the public school building this morning, where it was inspected by u large number of people. The crusher will be taken at once to the city quarry on the Uoise farm, where it will be placed in readiness for operation. The roller will be put to work on the now grade on Court street. Frank Shannon, the expert machinist sent from Portland to superintend the installing of the crusher, says that since the rock bins are all completed, he sees no reason why the machine cannot be set up ready for work inside of four days. Entertained In Portland. Mrs. George II. Ilimes entertained at her home, 871 East Everett street, last Saturday afternoon, October 20, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Orvillo Waller, of Monmouth. The guests present wore former Polk County friends. Besides the guests of honor and hostess, those present were, Robert Coombs, Mrs. Clayborn Walker, Mrs. Dave Holmes, Mrs. Charles Jacobson, Mrs. T. II. Starbuck, Misses Edith Starbuck, Kate Shrove, Ida Waller, Carrie Haley and Lurah Ilimes. The afternoon was very pleasantly spent in recalling memories of former days, after which light refreshments were served.
