Let us away with all rings, and nominate and elect a man who could do some thing for Oregon and not be forever bothered with llxing up broken political fences, so much so as to lose sight of the fact that Oregon Is at present more in need of good, sub stantial, influential repicsentatives than inero politicians constantly employed in self-aggrandizement. Woodbum independent. Tho shooting of Clarence Fisher in a field near Sinitlilield is one of those deplorable accidents for which no ono can be blamed. Healthy and normal young Americans will have sport and recreation, and many of them llnd their chief pleasure in the manly and healthful sport of hunting. Guns are dangerous weapons, and accidents will sometimes happen in spite of the greatest care and pre caution. The only blunders for which there aro no excuse are those of ono hunter foolishly pointing a gun at another, or of a hunter mistaking his companion for an animal and reck lessly filing before he has discovered his mistake, Neither of these blunders caused the death of young Fisher, and no blame can attach to anyone for the sad accident. Tho sympathy for the family of tho dead boy is deep, and it is even greater for the young man who was the innocent causo of his com panion's tragic end. RETURNS FROM KANSAS Attorney B. F. Jones Prefers Oregon to Any Country He Saw On Mis Trip. Hon. B. F. Jones, of Inde.endence, waa a business visitor in Dallas yes terday. Mr. Jones arrived homo Hat unlay from Iavcnworth, Kansas, where he appeared as counsel in acase in tho United States Court. While in Kansas, ho spent a few days at his old home In the city of Lawrence, and there visited a brother whom he had notseeu for 37 years. Be says his na tive city and tin- surrounding country have made great growth and develop inent, that portion of the state being largely devoted to fruit raising. "When 1 left Kansas City ,17 years ago, it was a town no larger than Dal las," said Mr. Jones. "Now it has a population exceeding a quarter of a million. Other cities in the middle states have grown In like proportion. Considering this growth in tho older and less favored states, just think what a future is in store for the (.ties and towns of Oregon ! 1 predict that Portland will be a city or .Wo.ooo vople In loss than 20 years, and that other cities will make a like rapid growth. ThepcoploorOrogon do not appreciate what a really wonderful state they have, and they cannot fully realize theiradvantages until they have taken a trip through the .astern and middle states. A beautiful and impressive wedding was solemnized at tho home of Judge nnd Mrs. Dan P. Stouffer, Sunday afternoon, when their daughter, Lina, j became the bride of James Warren Quick, of St. Helens, Oregon. j Tmrnrif.lv at two o'clock, to the: - I J strains of the wedding march played by Miss Frankie Hayter, the young couple, attended by Judge Stouffer and the Bev. M. P. Dixon, pastor of the M. E. Church, entered the south parlor, where the ceremony was per formed that made them husband and wire. Altercongratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Quick were escorted to the after noon train, and their departure for their future home in St. Helens was taken amid a shower of rice and the fond farewells of many friends of the bride. Mr. Quick is a son of Hon. and Mrs. D. O. Quick, and is a rising young business man of his home town. His bride is the only daughter of Judge and Mrs. Stouffer. and has many friends in Dallas, the home of her girl hood, and in St. Helens, where she has been teaching school for the last two years. A letter from Senator Bourne to the Ohhervek brings the news that Alvie Morton has been appointed relief clerk on the Portland & Dallas, Portland it Sheiidan, and Portland & Cazadero railway mail routes. The young man but recently entered the railway mail service, and desired this appointment so that he might bo at home a part of the time. Friends interested Senator Bourne In his behalf, with the result that theappointment was made by tho Postoflico Department last week. Tho Carnation Dancing Club met last night and organized for the winter, E. Jacobson being chosen president, and W. L. Soehren, secre tary and treasurer. During tho com ing season, parties will be given on the second and fourth Satuidays of each month. Tho first party will be held at Woodman hall, Saturday night, flood musie will bo furnished by Stockwell's orchestra; refreshments will be served, and an enjoyable time is assured to all who attend.
