While the honesty and integrity of the jurors will not be questioned, the ver dict of the people who have followed most closely the published proceedings of the trial will be "not proven" rather than "not guilty." The publisher of the News loudly crie9 "fake," and the Review as strenuously denies thecharge. These "popular, young lady" contests are becoming an intolerable nuisance. They not only cause strife and jealously, but are an imposition upon the people. It is about time for Uncle Sam to step in and save the reading public from further annoyance by putting a stop to all these voting and prize schemes. County Clerk Smith issued license to wed to B. F. Edwards and Hattie E. Grioe, both of Eola, today. Mrs. M. B. Young and her daughter, Elizabeth, went to Newport today, to spend a few weeks. Dr. C. A. Campbell and O. M. Rork went to Falls City yesterday, to spend a day fishing on the Luckiatnute. Miss Edith Paul, of Tillamook, has come to spend the summer with her grandmother, Mrs. R. C. Remington. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Shriver came in from the David Peters farm, yester day, where he is employed paintiug a house. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Ellis will leave tomorrow for their annual vacation at Newport. They will drive across the mountains. Mr. and Mrs. George Groshong, of Topeka, Kansas, left for home yester day after a pleasant visit with their uncle, Warren Dunn. Miss Cecile Row land expects to leave in a few days for a two weeks' visit with friends in Portland and Dallas. Corvallis Republican. E. C. Kirkpatrick, President of the Dallas Mercantile Cotffpany, accom panied by Mrs. Kirkpatrick, left today for a two weeks' outing at Newport. N. R. Smith, of Monterey, Cali fornia, employed in the civil service, is visiting hissister. Miss Olive Smith during the 30 days' furlough allowed him by the government. Mr. and Mrs. F. J.
