Morgan Jones, of Texas, an extensive railroad and timber land owner, has been in Dallas, looking after his timber interests in Polk County. Prof. D. M. Metzger has returned from a week's stay in the neighbor hood of Lebanon, where he has been filling the place of H. L. Pratt, presid ing elder. He will soon go into the district about Corvallls and later into the Siuslaw country. During his journeys, Prof. Metzger is working diligently for the interests of Dallas College. Miss Nellie Mulkey, daughter of President B. F. Mulkey of the State Normal, who is studying instrumental music at Eugene, appeared In a recital there a few days ago, and the Eugene papers speak of her piano solo num hfirs as beinor Darticularlv fine. I 9 WOODMEN VISIT DALLAS Forty Members of Falls City Camp Come By Special Train and Bring Fifteen Candidates. Forty sturdy "choppers" from the Falls Citv Woodman camp came to Dallas by special train Tuesday even- Incc. brlneine with them 15 candi dates for initiation. The visitors were met at the depot by a delegation from Dallas camp and escorted to the hall, where the candidates were initiated into the mysteries of the order. Hon. Walter Tooze, one or the foremost Woodmed of the state, presided as Consul Commander. At a late hour, a fine banquet was served by the women of Mistletoe Circle and a pleasant social hour was enjoyed. The new class will prove a valuable addition to the Falls City camp, which Is making a rapid growth. Ben Masters and Sydney Trask, to whom the nrosDeritv of the camp is so largely due, received many flattering compli ments for bringing such a large num ber of worthy members Into the order. Craghead, circulation mana ger of the Salem Journal, was a busi ness visitor in Dallas yesterday. Misses Nellie, Ora and Louise Col lins have arrived in Dallas from their years'sstay in South Dakota. Miss Nellie Collins, for the past twelve years Critic in the training depart ment of the Madison State Normal School, has resigned her position, and will hereafter make her home in Ore gon. She says that a state wherebliz zards occur the 15th of May, does not compare, for a permanent home, with Oregon, where the Spring flowers ap pear in February. To build a house ten miles from the place it la to be lived in Is, somewhat unusual, but that is what the Wil lamette Valley Lumber Company has been doing. Bunk houses, capable of accommodating eight men, are built in their lumber yard in Dallas, arter which they are loaded on flat cars and shipped to the logging camps at the terminus of the Dallas and Falls City railroad. The bunk houses are built on skid runners, so that they can be moved readily whenever it Is necessary to change the camp.
