Clifford Smart, a 10-year-old pupil of the Dallas public school, fell from a gymnasium ladder lathe basement this morning and broke his left fore arm. The lad was taken to his home and Dr. L. A. Wash several months ago. Mr. Wash and family will move to Cali fornia in June. Miss Gertrude Jordan, a niece of J. D. Belt, of Independence, died at her home in Oakland, California, last Wednesday. She was a young woman of beautiful and attractive personality and had many friends. Her death came just on the eve of her marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Barney Morrison, well known to all the older residents of Polk county, celebrated the Cist anniversary of their wedding, Sun day, April H. Few couples in Oregon have lived a longer married life. The old people are spending their declining years in comfort at their pleasaut mountain home at Pioneer, Lincoln county. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Pollock will leave this week for Forest Grove, where they will make their home. Mr. Pollock has purchased seven acres of land In the suburbs of that town and will engage In fruit and berry raising. Mr. and Mrs. Pollock and their tal ented daughter, Elizabeth, will be greatly missed in Dallas' church and social circles, and the best wishes of many friends go with them to their new home. The directors of the North Dallas school desire to inform the patrons of that district that the school will be resumed Monday, April 22 Miss Clara Hollander has been secured to teach. A full attendance of pupils is desired. City Council Meeting. Three thousand copies of the pre mium list for the Polk County School Children's Industrial Fair were mailed frora the office of School Super intendent Starr this week. The fol lowing Is a copy ot the letter which accompanied the prize lists : ? Dallas, Or., April 8, '07. To parents, directors and teachers : The School Children's Industrial Fair of this county will be held at Dallas, Sept. 27 and 28. You will find enclosed a list of the exhibits for which prizes are to be given. . The fair last year was a success in every way, over two-thirds of tue schools of the county made exhibits, and over $800 was distributed through out the county in prizes. What the fair will be this year de pends to a great extent upon you. In order to make this fair a success every parent, director, and teacher In the county must aid and do all he or she can possibly do for the fair, in the manner of encouraging the boys and girls to raise the products, to can the fruit and to do the sewing. Some children are without convey ances with which to send theirexhibits to the fair. The directors of several districts have offered to see that all exhibits In their respective districts are transported to and from the fair free of cost to the boys or girls making the exhibits. Both the ladies' and the gentlemen's executive committees are hard at work upon the prizes, and an excellent list will soon be made out, a copy of which will be sent you. The recital will be held in the Wood man Hall on Friday evening of this week. A special motor has been secured to bring the singers and their friends to Dallas. In addition to the program given by her pupils, Mrs. Dorris has secured some of the best vocal talent In the Willamette Valley to assist In this recital. Prominent among these Ingers is Miss Evelyn Rhodes, of Albany, and Mr. Frank Snyder, of McMinnvillo. Miss Rhodes possesses voice of remarkable range and purity, and has delighted every audience before which she has ap peared. Frank Snyder a splendid baritone voice will be a revelation to his many friends in Dallas who have never heard him sing. Frank is a member of a family of singers known through out the length and breadth of Oregon for their natural musical talent, and It can be said with truth that his voice is adding much to the family reputation. With old man "Al" and George away off yonder in Alaska, where they can't defend themselves, the Observer man makes bold to say that he would rather hear Frank sing than either of them. And that is say Ing much, when one calls to mind the marvelous vocal powers of the father and elder son.
