in $ : NEWS OF COUNTY TOWNS. EOLA. Our school has a new organ. Hop Lee haa sold his hops, realizing 13J cents per pound. The revival meeting has been post poned until December 2G. H. B. Brophy has his hopyards all cleaned up, and is ready for his spring work. William Knower has added a chop ping mill to the many improvements on his farm. An enjoyable party was given at the residence of O. G. Savageon Saturday evening. Mrs. B. I. Ferguson spent Sunday with her sisters, the Misses Sheridan, in Salem. I Considerable wood is being cut here this winter, prices being $1.25 for oak and $1 for fir. This community subscrlbod about $22 for a Christmas tree, which insures its success. G. W. Chapman is also adding to the list of Eola's improvements by putting up a new wire fence. Mr. Thomas Holman has grubbed up his 11 acres of early Fuggle hops, and intends resetting it with English clusters. Dr. Reynolds was called to attend Mr. Mitty and found him suffering with pleurisy. He Is getting along nicely now. The remains of A. J. Byers were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of friends, quite a number attending from here. Major Dennis, of Salem, who bought 100 acres of land of Mr. Schuett, has several men cutting wood, and will put a wire fence around the entire tract. The funeral of the late Douglas Gibson was held from the residence of G. W. Chapman, Thursday, Decem ber 13, at 11 a. rn. The remains were laid to rest in the old family burying ground on the Putnam farm. to BUENA VISTA. Guy,.McReynolds has returned Buena Vista. William Porter has gone to Mill City to work. R. McReynolds and sons are en larging their hop yard. Mrs. Pagenkopf, of McTimmonds Valley is visiting in Buena Vista. M. N, Thorp, of Independence, was a visitor in Buena Vista last week. A. Anderson recently made a ship ment of timothy hay to a Portlan firm. The orchestra furnished several numbers for the song servico Thurs day evening. Prather Bros, are occasionally put ting out rafts of logs for thoSpaulding Logging Co. Charles Roy, of Marion county, has been breaking bunchgrass horses for T. D. McClain. Mrs. M. L. McClain is at a hospital in Portland, where she recently under went an operation. Mrs. Minnie Leighton has changed her place of residence to the home formerly occupied by her brother, Mr, Wheeler. Jitiena vistais astir witn prepara tions for Christmas. The Methodist and Evangelical churches are going to give a union tree at the Odd Fellows' hall on Christmas eve. RICKREALL. Lee Burch has gone to California. Miss Vida Myer has been quite sick, A dance will be given here Christmas night. Miss Pauline Nesmith is home from Portland. Mrs. Arthur visited friends in Salem last week. Mr. Munch has returned home from Portland. Mrs. Eva Lucas is visiting B. F. Lucas and family. The Rickreall boys were defeated in a basketball game at Oak Grove, Fri day night. Mrs. Jake Burch went to Ballston Tuesday, and attended the funeral of her father, Mr. Nance. The school will give an entertain ment Friday evening. A good pro gram is being prepared, and all are nvited to come. Supt. C. L. Starr visited our school, Tuesday, and gave some valuable in struction. Fourteen new books have been added to the school library. relatives in Sheridan. Mr. and Mrs. Sara Pettyjohn were visiting in Sheridan this week. T ,mvf1 riontrv. of Willamina, is visiting his uncle, Joe Flannery. Church was held In the school house last Sunday, with a large attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Faulconer, of Sheridan, have been visiting at the home of Loe Rowell. Mrs. Chester Ellis and daughter have been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shepard. Mrs. D. T. Hodges and son, Ed, have been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Fred Auer, in Gopher Valley. PERRYDALE. Regular services at the Christian church on Sunday. Uncle David Peters is confined to his home by illness. Christmas tree at the Christian cliurch, Monday night. Frank Zumwalt has returned home, after an extended absence. Mr. and Mrs. Blumer Strong made a business trip to Dallas, Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Conner passed Saturday and Sunday visiting in Dallas. A Christmas tree and program Fri day afternoon will mark the closing of our school for the holidays. Graudpa Nance passed to his re ward Monday night, after a lingering illness at the home of his son. BUTLER. died N. LaShontz's little daughter this week. Alvin Shepard has been visiting his sister at Sheridan. Misa Rita Rowell has been visiting McCOY. Miss Nina Slagle expects to spend the holidays at Corvallis. Mr. Raj', father of Mrs. J. Q. Thomas, died in Salem, December 17. Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Kelty are plan ning a trip to California during the winter. The j'oung people of McCoy and vicinity are counting on a pleasant time at the social hop on Christmas ight. The children are all looking forward with pleasant anticipation to a visit from Santa Claus next week. The ladies of the Rebekah lodge will give a small Christmas tree in the lodge room to the Oddfellows and their families. FALLS CITY. Thomas Hollowell is enlarging his greenhouse. J. M. Dennis is suffering from a painful attack of rheumatism. Steve Boynton has moved from Camp No. 2 to north Falls City. J. C. Talbott is now manager of the rtiihnrt furniture store on North V I L V M - ' Main street. Dr. and Mrs. L. Pfandhoefer and Charles Watts were Dallas visitors, Tuesday. Randolph Butler Is shaking hands affain after nursing a broken right c arm for several weeks. Roy Cox and Mr. Vick are slowly recovering from injuries received by the falling of a scaffold. H 8. Montgomery has returned from a Paso Robles, Cal., hospital slightly improved in health. Falls City people are jubilant over the arrival of a carload of coal oil d resorted to candles for several days. fJonntv Commissioner J. B. Teal was reported worse, but is improving. Mrs TVftl and son. Otto, are also better. C. Vashaw is clearing and stump ing his lots on the hill in north Falls City and has built a standard side walk in front of them. Every merchant should secure his share of business. He can do this only by reaching the people who buy. The Observer reaches more people m ten miles around Falls City than any other newspaper, and it is there fore a medium that will bring returns to advertisers. J. A.
