S. Ramsey. Mr. Kurry is a cousin, and Mr. Record a brother, of Mrs. Ramsey. H. V. Andrews has opened a res taurant and oyster house in the building next door to Daniel's wall paper store. He says it is his intention to conduct a first-class eating house. Miss Dtantha Brummell, of Salis bury, Missouri, is a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Dalton. The young lady is making a leisurely tour of Oregon, Washington and Cali fornia, and Is greatly enjoying her trip. License to wed was issued to James F. Fewster and Miss Ethel Plummer in Vancouver, Wash., Monday. Mr. Fewster is a Portland machinist, and the young lady is a daughter of Ex Sheriff and Mrs. H. B. Plummer, of Dallas. Rev. D. Julian Becker and family returned home from an enjoyable out ing at Newport, Wednesday. We are requested to announce that the usual morning and evening services will be held in the Presbyterian church next Sunday. Aaron Carlyle Murray, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Murray, of Falls City, died Tuesday, August 21, after an ill ness of four days of spinal meningitis. He was four years and six months old at the time of his death. Logger. T. D. Phillips and family will again make their home on their farm near Dallas. Mrs. Phillips and son, Ben, came down from Gilliam county last Friday, Miss Etta followed Wednes day, and Mr. Phillips is expected to arrive in a few weeks. Evangelists N. Welter, W. J. John son and N. A. Walter, of the Free Methodist Church, are holding a camp meeting in the City Park. The first service was held Wednesday night, and the meetings will continue two weeks. Alex Riddell, one of Portland's lead ing fee and coal merchants, visited old-time friends in Dallas this week. In addition to his regular work, he is also studying law, and expects to take the examination for addmittance to the bar in the near future. Amos Holman purchased the "Dick Turner" residence property of Dr. McCallon yesterday, paying $1500 therefor. Superintendent Starr and parents, who have been occupying the property, will move into Mrs. May Farley's house near the depot. Mrs. Farley and family will move to their homestead in Lincoln county. Kid Ervin of Portland left this week for Independence, Oregon, where he will box E. N. Davis ten rounds on September 15. Davis is the light; weight champion wrestler of Wash ington. Ervin weighs 126 pounds and has been training in Portland for the past three weeks for the battle. Portland Journal. It will cost the growers just $15,000 to cash the hop checks printed at the Observer office last Saturday and it wasn't a very good day for hop checks, either. No other Industry puts so much money in circulation in such a short space of time. Hundreds of thousands of dollars will be paid out for wages by the hop farmers of Polk county within the next three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. D. 0. Bronson have returned to the valley from Crook county and will again take up their residence on the old farm near Lewls ville. Mr. Bronson's health was greatly improved by his stay in east ern Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Will Bron son will go to take charge of the Crook county farm. Miss Maggie Bowles, a daughter of Mrs. Ellen Bowles, arrived home Tuesday from an eleven months' visit in Lemars, Iowa. She says Dr. C. C. Poling and family are now settled in their new home in Lemars and live but a short distance from her brother's house. Professor and Mrs. George Countryman, formerly of Dallas, are also residents of that city. A special election will be held in Falls City next Monday to vote on the proposition of bonding the town for $8000 for the purpose of putting In a system of waterworks. An open air mass meeting will be held on Main street, near Lucas' store, in that town at 8 o'clock tonight to discuss plans for securing the desired Improvement Rev. E. J. Thompson D. D., of Inde pendence, arrived in Albany Tuesday and will hereafter make his home in this city. He will act as supply for some of the Presbyterian churches of the valley, but will have no regular pastorate. Rev. Thompson will be made heartily welcome in this city where he has many friends of long years standing. Albany Herald. The Cottage Hotel now owns its water system, having purchased a pumping engine and air-pressure water tank this week. The plant in stalled is known as the Burton Domestic Water Supply System. The water is pumped from a well on the premises, and is distributed to the various rooms by compressed air. E. E. Howe, the Portland agent of the system, personally supervised the installation of the plant A. H.
