Polk County Living Polk County Itemizer-Observer • July 5, 2017 9A COMMUNITY NOTEBOOK Fourth of July kicks off Left Coast to host Great Wine Fest Left Coast Cellars, 4225 North Pacific Highway W., Rickreall, will host the Great White Wine Festival Satur- day from noon to 7 p.m. Wineries will showcase some of their offerings, and tasting stations will be available throughout the grounds. Food stations will also be serving menu items created to pair with featured white wines. Yard games will be avail- able for all to enjoy as well as carnival games. Tickets cost $25 and in- cludes seven drink tickets, three game tickets and a souvenir glass. Additional drink and game tickets will be available for purchase for $10 for four tickets or $20 for 10 tickets. The cost is $15 for club members of participating wineries and the price is $10 for people ages 11 to 20, designated drivers and non-drinkers. Children 10 and younger are free. Chamber to host eclipse workshop The Monmouth-Indepen- dence Chamber of Com- merce will host a Solar Eclipse and Moon Phases workshop Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Chemeketa Polk Center, 1340 SE Hol- man Ave., Dallas. Geologist Sheila Alfsen will explore the solar eclipse phenomenon through demonstration and audi- ence participation. There is no cost to attend. For more information: Beth Bonnet, 503-623-5567. DH Arboretum seeks volunteers The Friends of the Del- bert Hunter Arboretum are seeking volunteers for Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the arboretum at Dallas City Park. Volunteers will spread bark around trees and benches, and do some weeding. People will gather at the arboretum building prior to starting. Children are welcome with an adult. Gloves are recommended. Entries for wine maker contest due Online entries for ama- teur wine makers for com- petition at the Oregon State Fair are due by July 17. Ribbons will be awarded in each classification. Blue rib- bon winners from each cate- gory will be announced and presented as Amateur Best of Show on Aug. 18 at the Ore- gon State Fairgrounds. The top three Best-in- Class winners in the red wine, white wine and berry wine will receive the Chemeketa Amateur Wine- maker Prize and receive free tuition for any three- credit course in the wine studies program.
