Wallace had played a number of different positions throughout her softball career, from pitcher to shortstop. There was one spot she hadn’t gotten a chance to play — a position she was yearning to have a chance at. “I enjoy playing anywhere in the field, but I practiced for years and years at being a catcher,” Wal- lace said. “It’s what I was hoping DALLAS — Cross Creek Women’s Club results for June 12. II Director’s Cup MONMOUTH — West- ern Oregon University fin- ished 105th in the 2016-17 Learfield Division II Direc- tor’s Cup standings. T h e Wo l v e s t a l l i e d 208.75 points during the school year. All points were scored in track and field. The f i ni s h wa s t h e school’s second highest. “This is the result of the efforts of both the stu- dent-athletes and our coaching staff,” WOU ath- letic direc tor Barbara Dearing said. “Their per- formance on the field/court of competition and in the classroom rep- resents Western Oregon very well.” WOU was fourth among Great Northwest Athletic Conference Schools be- hind Western Washington (11th), Simon Fraser (15th) and Alaska Anchorage (18th). The Learfield Director’s Cup was developed be- tween the National Associ- ation of Collegiate Direc- tors of Athletics and USA Today. A maximum of 14 sports can earn points to- wards the program’s total and teams must qualify for their respective national tournament to score. Celebration By Lukas Eggen The Itemizer-Observer MONMOUTH — Western Oregon junior pitcher Brady Miller was selected by the Chicago Cubs during the 23rd round of the MLB Draft on June 14. “ I ' m speechless,” Miller said after his se- lection. “I'm ver y blessed to be given a chance to Miller play for such a great organization. Hard work does pay off if you stick towards a goal and put in countless hours of work. If you believe in yourself, then anything is possible.” Miller was the 705th over- all selection. Williams to host free football camp By Lukas Eggen The Itemizer-Observer MONMOUTH — Tyrell Williams can remember that awe-inspiring feeling he had when he was younger. “I re- member it was always cool when I went to a camp and got to see NFL play- e r s , ” Williams Williams said. “But I always had to go to Portland or go out of state to do it.” Williams is doing what he can to make it easier for oth- ers to get that experience. Williams will host an of- fensive skills camp on June 29 at Western Oregon Uni- versity from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp is open to stu- d e n t s i n g ra d e s s e ve n through 12. “I had always planned on Football camp What: Offensive skills camp for students in grades seven through 12.
