Pettit, 53, of Dal- las, on July 13 at the corner of Northeast Polk Station and Evergreen Court on charges of misdemeanor driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving. Angela E. Day, 39, of Dallas, on July 13 on Southeast Wal- nut Avenue on charges of fail- ure to carry or present an oper- ator’s license, driving unin- sured and driving while sus- pended. INDEPENDENCE Annalisa Marie Guajardo, 28, of Salem, on July 7 in the 1600 Monmouth Street for failure to carry or present an operator’s license, giving false informa- tion to a police officer, and third-degree criminal mischief. James David Stedman II, 60, of Independence, on July 9 in the 100 block of South Second Street on a warrant for con- tempt of court out of Sweet Home. Juan Manuel Leos Jr., 49, of Independence, on July 12 in the 1600 block of Monmouth Street for violating a restrain- ing order. Gregory Don Wheeler, 27, of Carlton, on July 13 in the 1400 F Street for a parole violation. MONMOUTH DEADLINES Rhiahannon M. Russell, 24, of Salem, on July 7 in the 800 block of Monmouth Avenue South for second-degree theft by deception or false pretense, second-degree forgery and criminal conspiracy. Benjamin Ray Martin, 30, of Monmouth, in the same place and at the same time, for second-degree theft by deception or false pre- tense and criminal conspiracy. Ryan Aaron Aumiller, 24, of Siletz, on July 10 in the 200 block of Atwater Street North for failure to carry or present an operator’s license. Rashed Alhajri, 23, of Corval- lis, on July 11 at the intersec- tion of Pacific Highway South and Clay Street East for failure to carry or present an opera- tor’s license. Jnathaniel Cody Southern, 33, of Corvallis, on July 13 at the intersection of Pacific High- way South and Madrona Street East for driving under the influ- ence of intoxicants, possession of methamphetamine and two counts of unlawful controlled substances – prohibited acts. Rebecca Marie Rilatos, 60, of Monmouth, on July 15 in the 400 Main Street East for third- degree theft. OBITUARIES Maria De La Luz Gaona Aug. 31, 1945 – July 5, 2016 Maria De La Luz Gaona, 70, died on July 5. She was born to Maria Luisa Gaona and Ramiro Gaona in Monterrey Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She married Panfilo Lara on Sept. 9, 1959, in Reynosa Tamaulipas, Mexico. Maria and her f a m i l y made the Willamette Valley their permanent home in 1 9 7 1 , where she worked as a laborer and for Willamette Cherry Growers in Salem. Her most memo- rable work however, was not just raising her children but also helping raise her grand- children and many other children as a babysitter and nanny. Survived by children, Jorge Lara, Juan Lara, Mario Lara, Rosa Hernandez, and Jose Lara; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services were held. To leave an online tribute: FarnstromMortuary.com. Donald Arthur Bates July 20, 1936 – March 9, 2016 Donald Arthur Bates, 79, of Independence, died on March 9. He was born in San Fran- cisco. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1953-1961. He mar- ried Con- s t a n c e Malavic on Ap r i l 1 8 , 1956. He was a lifelong 49er’s fan. He retired from PGE in California, and moved to Oregon in 1979. He retired from Natural Gas Company. Daughter, Debbie La- payade; wife, Constance; and son, Dennis, died before he did. Survived by children, David Bates, Denise Tonra and Christopher Bates; and nine grandchildren. Graveside service will be Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. at Belcrest Memorial Park, 1295 Browning Ave. S., Salem, followed by a gather- ing at the Half Penny Bar and Grill, 3743 Commercial Ave. S., Salem, from noon to 2 p.m. (kids welcomed). (Baker) Stepper. He grew up in Dallas and moved to In- dependence in 2006 with his wife of 33 years, Debra Lee Smith. He worked for Lynn Gar- rett RV in Dallas and was considered one of the great- est RV technicians in the area. His other skills includ- ed carpentry and construc- tion. Tim had many hobbies and was a spontaneous out- doors person. Besides his love for car- toons, football and building things, he enjoyed fishing, hiking the woods, camping, hunting and gardening. Tim is survived by his wife, Deb Stepper; children, Nick Hill (Kristy), Christy Jernigan (Chris) and Jennifer Sims (Jace); brother, Rick Stepper; father, Orville Step- per; aunt, Mickie Stephens (Phil); nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchil- dren. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. A gathering will take place after the funeral at 1220 Monmouth St. in the recre- ation hall; food will be pro- vided. To send an online tribute: www.dallastribute.com. Frances Haines Dec. 13, 1922 – June 26, 2016 Frances Haines, 93, of Dallas, died on June 26, at the Village in Dallas. She was b o r n Frances Anna Wal- ter to Nicholas and Mary Walter of L i l l y d a l e, Minn. She and Jack Haines were married on Valentine’s Day in 1942. He was drafted, and they stayed together as much as they could. She followed him from state to state dur- ing his training and went back home when he went overseas. After the war, they set their sights on Oregon and drove West. They settled in the Dallas area and made it their home. Her hobbies were Bingo and Mariners baseball. She loved to read and was a spellbinding story teller. She easily made friends with her neighbors and dining mates. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Haines; sisters, Marie Stadt and Clara Mueller; brothers, John, Frank and Eugene Walter; grandsons, John Haines and Arthur Endsley; and Daniel Indra, her great- grandson. She is survived by broth- ers, Paul and Nicholas Wal- ter, of Minnesota; son, Jack Haines; daughters, Anna Wherry, Rosemary Indra and Mischelle Endsley; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A recitation of the rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. fol- lowed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the St. Philip Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Dallas Cemetery. Beatrice (Slyh) Mandemaker Nov. 15, 1942 – July 8, 2016 Beatrice ( S l y h ) Mande- maker, 73, of Salem, formerly of Dallas, died from cancer on Stephen Ryan Henderson July 20, 1979 – July 11, 2016 Stephen Ryan Henderson, 37, of Salem, died on July 11 at his family’s home in Inde- pendence. He was born to Rosie and Ro b e r t Hender- son. He at- tended M c K a y H i g h School. Ryan was known for his huge heart, thoughtfulness, many pairs of tennis shoes and his crazy socks. Steve Motsinger April 28, 1957 – July 16, 2016 Steve Motsinger, 59, of In- dependence, died on July 16 at home. He was born to James Motsinger and Anna Salsi in Turlock, Calif. Steve’s passions were lis- tening to the Rolling Stones and Neil Young. He loved the outdoors and, when he could, camp- ing. Dave Guzman Dave Guzman, 78, of Salem, formerly of Keizer, died on Thursday as a result of complications from a devastating brain disease, progressive supra-nuclear palsy.
