Polk County News 10A Polk County Itemizer-Observer • March 9, 2016 OBITUARIES ‘Kenzie’ Mackenzie Noel Lyman Feb. 11, 1995 – Feb. 26, 2016 “Kenzie” Mackenzie Noel Lyman, 21, died Feb. 26 with her best friend and love of her life, Bailee Ray Candello- Southwick. She was born in Dallas to Joel Rene’ and Krista Kath- leen Luker Lyman. S h e graduated f r o m S o u t h S a l e m H i g h School in 2013. She joined the Army Re- s e r v e s where she had the opportunity to meet some of her best friends. She was full of energy and joy and love. Kenzie enjoyed spending her time with her family and friends. She was a great cook and would oftentimes bake cookies for the men at the Brightwood Mill in Red- mond, where she was work- ing. She enjoyed hiking, trips to the beach and spending time with her friends in front of the camp- fire. Mackenzie was kind and compassionate. She was accepting of all people and loved unconditionally. Ken- zie was a sweet and caring big sister to all of her sib- lings. Survivors include her mother, Krista Luker; father, Joel and stepmother, Islynn Lyman; brothers, Drake Lyman, and Perry Freeman III; sister, Payten Lyman; twin siblings, Dylan Lyman and Avery Lyman; grandpar- ents, Pati Fowler, Joe and Becky Luker, Stann and Charlotte Lyman, and Don and LaVerne Rutledge; and a large extended family. Bailee Ray Candello- Southwick May 28, 1997 – Feb. 26, 2016 Bailee Ray Candello- Southwick, 18, died Feb. 26. He was born in Dallas to Gable Ray Southwick and Deidre Marie Candello. Bailee was always an adven- turous, liv- ing-on- the-edge- kind of y o u n g man as he loved to raft down the Santi- am River, snowboard and go to the beach. At the same time, he was the kind of per- son who made others smile DANA WADE SMITH June 20, 1955 - Feb. 26, 2016 Dana, 60, passed away peacefully February 26th, surrounded by family and friends. He was born June 20, 1955, in Lancaster, California. Dana resided in Dallas, attended Dallas High School and worked on the family farm/ roofing business. Dana Married Sara on June 11, 1988. Dana loved to tinker on cars, small engines, lawn mowers and tractors. He also loved to hunt and fish, loved music. He was never a stranger to anyone, having a compassionate heart for people. He loved helping people, would give the shirt off his back to anyone. Dana loved life and loved everyone that was in his life. Survivors include his wife, Sara; son Mark and his wife Ashley Smith; Sister, Debbie Satterwhite; brothers, Darrald Smith, Dewey Wayne Smith, Derk Smith, and Delbert Smith. Grandchildren Trey Smith, Tru Smith and Zador Smith. Dana will be remembered for his relationships, love for people, wisdom, sense of humor and his devotion to his family. We will carry his memory in our hearts. Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2016 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, Salem. For three summers, as a youth, Bailee rode around the United States in an 18- wheeler with his stepgrand- pa, Louie, and saw many sites. Bailee received his GED through Chemeketa Com- munity College and also took some college classes. Bailee met Mackenzie Noel Lyman and they had been almost inseparable for the past year, living at Crooked River Ranch and working at the Brightwood Lumber Mill in Redmond. Bailee tried to learn all that he could to improve himself wherever he went. He was preceded in death by his father, Gabe. Survivors include his mother, Deidre Candello and her partner, Daniel Priebe; sisters, Destinee Candello, Ella Carter, Trini- tee Candello, and Ashlee Candello; brother, Devon Branan Candello; stepbroth- er, Markie Newell; stepdad Mark Newell; grandparents, Gordon and Melody South- wick, Nancy Candello, Jeff Schmidt, Brian George and Louie Jennings; great-grand- parents, George and Mary Candello, Richard and Con- nie Barreras Sr., Walt and Linda Bier, and Larry South- wick; and extended family. Karen Mary Barnard Aug. 19, 1952 – Feb. 23, 2016 Karen Mary Barnard, 63, of Dallas died Feb. 23 in Dal- las. She was born in Portland to Henry and M a r y Dinges. Karen was raised on a farm in Woodburn. She was the May Day Queen and gradu- ated from Woodburn High School in 1970. Karen re- ceived her Licensed Practi- cal Nurses training at the Seventh-day Adventist Hos- pital in Portland. She later became an LPN II. Karen started working as a pedi- atric nurse at Salem Hospi- tal. She loved her job and deeply cared about her pa- tients. She was a nurse for 25 years until she had to retire due to her health. K a re n m a r r i e d Jo h n Barnard on May 29, 1987. They embraced their retire- ment and were able to spend time together. Karen’s faith was deeply important to her. Karen loved her grandchildren, who gave her pure joy and were very in- strumental in their lives. She was a talented seamstress and made beautiful dresses. Karen loved to garden, and displayed the flowers she grew in beautiful arrange- ments in her home. Karen and John enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their mo- torhome. They also enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Dinges, and niece, Amy Comstock. Survivors include her hus- band, John Barnard; son, John (Shelly) Bar nard; daughters, Jennifer (Dave) Parsons, and Colleen (Mike) K i b b e y ; m o t h e r, M a r y Dinges; sisters, Grace Dinges, Maureen Comstock, and Terese Dinges; brothers, Dan, John and Joe Dinges; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was born in Bristow, Okla., to Charlie and Mattie Ryder Flint. She married Howard Fausset on July 19, 1941, in Adair, Okla., and they moved to Dallas in 1948. He led an eventful life and visited every continent except Antarctica. He was part of the first group of men to cross the Arctic Circle under the Eisenhower Administra- tion in 1956. John helped set up the “dew-line,” an early warning system designed to detect unaccounted for air- craft in Alaska. He then helped to set up the com- munica- tion system that tied the “dew- line” oper- ations in the out- lying area of Alaska into the main mon- itoring cen- ter in An- chorage. John re- tired in 1991 from General Dynamics in Pomona, Calif., as an electric engineer. John was a member of the Reformed Church of Ameri- ca in Escondido for 28 years. He had more than 25 years working with the Boy Scouts and 28 years as a volunteer with hospice. John met his wife, Muriel M. Meyer Heronemus when she was 9 years old and he was 12. Ten years later, the two were married, a union that lasted 59 years. They had four children He was preceded in death by his siblings, William, Richard, Helen and Eliza- beth; granddaughter, Chris- tine Fairchild; and great- grandson, Alexander Fairchild. Survivors include his sis- ter, Rosemary Pech; daugh- ters, Peggy (Terry Flury) Edson, of Winchester Bay, and Pam Wrocklage, of Los Angeles; son, Paul (Toni Blessing) Heronemus, of Dallas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. To send an online tribute: www.dallastribute.com. Harold Worth Aug. 3, 1935 – March 7, 2016 Harold Worth, 80, of Salem died Monday in West Salem. He was born in Enid, Okla., to Joseph and Lillian Worth. Harold came to Salem in the early 1950s. He married Wanda Slaughter and they were married for 30 years. She died on July 23, 1988. Harold worked in various mills as a grease monkey around the Willamette Valley including Willamina, Mill City, Sweet Home and Ger- vais. Harold loved to work and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He en- joyed watching westerns. He could fix anything with duct tape, bailing wire and a rat- tle can. He was preceded in death by his sons, Charlie and Mike Worth. Survivors include his chil- dren, Randy Slaughter, Julie Slaughter, Janie Worth, Dave Hunt, and Bob Nickels; sis- ters, Loretta Weaver, Jennie Neal, and Mary Lou Lefors; brother, Jack Worth; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
