The Mountaineers are looking to clinch a spot in the league tournament for Dragons: Team faces must win Continued from Page 10A After being shutout by Corvallis the previous week, Friday’s victory al- lowed the Dragons to enjoy their final home game of the season. “It feels awesome,” Hof- ferber said. “To come out and get this win on Home- coming and senior night, it feels so good. After Corval- lis, we were really emotion- al and said we’re never let- ting that happen again. We’re going to play balls to the wall the rest of the way out.” That they earned the vic- tory through stout defense and a punishing run game made the victory even sweeter. “That’s our identity,” Hofferber said. “It always has been. It’s great to get back to that.” The Dragons play at Lebanon on Friday. Dallas enters the week with a 2-5 record overall and 2-3 mark in Mid- Willamette Conference play. The Dragons enter tied for sixth in the league standings, one game be- hind a quartet of teams at 3-2 in MWC play. The top four teams from the MWC advance to the state play- offs. Players are eager to avoid a letdown against a difficult opponent. “You have to come into practice like this win never happened,” Hofferber said. As Dallas fights to keep its postseason hopes alive, Jackson said after much of the season spent tr ying to redefine its image, the Dragons of old are back. “I apologized to them for getting crazy and get- ting away from our base values to play physical football,” Jackson said. “Somebody quits before somebody wins and tonight, we just kept pounding it.” Itemizer-Observer Athlete of the Week Tanner Earhart Dallas High Earhart, a junior, helped Dallas’ foot- ball team break a three game losing streak against Crescent Valley on Friday night.
