Downtown Greeter
Fundraiser slated
for Thursday
The Monmouth Senior
Center will host its next
soup and pie fundraiser
from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on
Thursday.
This is a fun time for the
center and the community,
with the old favorites —
chicken noodle, vegetable
beef, clam chowder and
vegetarian.
Pies are all homemade
with fruit. Polk County says
no to cream pies.
Volunteers are needed.

Old-time fiddlers to
perform in Falls City
The Oregon Old Time
Fiddlers will perform a ben-
efit concert at the Falls City
Methodist Church, at the
corner of North Main Street
and First Avenue, at 1 p.m.
on Saturday.
The concert is free. A do-
nation cookie sale will be
held. Contributions are wel-

maintain the historic
church, built in 1892.
Turkey shoot is
Titus 3 fundraiser
Titus 3 House Turkey
Shoot will be Oct. 24 at the
Independence Elk’s Gun
Club. Proceeds from the
event will benefit and sup-
port Titus 3 House.
Registration and conti-
nental breakfast begins at
8:30 a.m. that morning.
Prizes include a long gun
giveaway, Astoria salmon
guided fishing trip, turkey,
hams and much more.

In a competition with the
school district, the library
will be offering $1 off late
fines for each food item,
hoping to collect as many
items as possible. The food
collected will benefit local
food banks.

Downtown Trends and
Treasures consignment
boutique will host a wine
and cheese tasting from 4
to 6 p.m. on Friday at the

and cheese basket.

Monmouth park
breaking ground
Celebrate the com-
mencement of the largest
park project in Monmouth’s
history at the Main Street
Park Amphitheater ground-
breaking ceremony at 5:30
p.m. on Tuesday at the am-
phitheater site.
Construction improve-
ments have already begun,
such as getting the ground
ready for the new bath-
rooms, removal of trees,
and selling and relocating
the little green house that
was on the property.
