Polk County Itemizer-Observer • August 12, 2015 3A Polk County News Salem Health and OHSU partnership progressing West Valley Hospital services may expand soon By Jolene Guzman The Itemizer-Observer POLK COUNTY — West Valley Hospital and its par- e n t c o m p a n y, S a l e m Health, will soon be part of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Part- ners. The partnership, which was formed to streamline services and to provide bet- ter care to patients of both organizations, will officially begin on Oct. 1. However, the governing boards at OHSU and Salem Health announced the new name of the organization, OHSU Partners last week. The board also named Peter Rapp, the executive director of OHSU health care and OHSU executive vice president, as the new CEO. Norm Gruber, Salem Health’s president and CEO, will be the president of the new company. Salem Health’s site exec- utive will be Cheryl Nester Wolfe, Salem Health presi- dent. Jim Sapienza, West Val- ley’s administrator, said Wolfe will be his supervisor, and there will be no changes to the governing structure at WVH because of the new partnership. Services offered through WVH and its clinics will re- main the same, for now. “Nothing will change im- mediately, but there will be services that will be added or expanded over time,” Sapienza said. He added the organiza- tion will try to establish “more appropriate services from the Dallas campus.” He said one example could be expanding reha- bilitation services to Polk County residents. Over the next six months, the signs and logos for West Valley, in- cluding clinics in Inde- p e n d e n c e, a n d Sa l e m Health will change, incor- porating part of OHSU’s logo. In September, a final agreement between OHSU and Salem Health is slated for adoption. The affiliation has been in the works since 2014, when Salem Health began looking to form a regional partnership. Sapienza said he believes the partnership will make all three campuses stronger. “This is going to serve all patients in Polk County at a time when our health care environment has changed,” Sapienza said. “It comes at the right time and we’ll be able to provide the right so- lution for our communi- ties.” POLICE REPORT Information for the police report comes from law en- forcement agencies. Not all calls for service are included. The status of incidents report- ed may change after further investigation. Individuals ar- rested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven guilty. — DALLAS Arrests/Citations • Devric V.
