And, a season after Amador fell short of his own lofty goals, he hopes to con- tinue to be an integral part of the team’s success and make his first varsity season one to remember. “I think we have a good chance of making a run this season,” Amador said. “It would be great to make state. We haven’t done it in years, and I think we have enough potential to make a run.” Itemizer-Observer staff report DALLAS — The Dallas girls’ tennis team is making strides, despite dropping two of three league match- es. Vault: Senior sets new bests Continued from Page 10A Remington, who began track and field in middle school, is a relative new- comer to the world of pole vaulting. It wasn’t until her sopho- more season that she gave it a try. “I really like pole vault because it’s such a rush, and I like to push myself,,” she said. “It can be scary, and I’ve definitely fallen a few times. You just have to get up and try again.” For Remington, who also played volleyball in high school and has participated in softball in the past, track provides a unique experi- ence, one that she enjoys being a part of. “You get out of it what you put into it,” she said. “In a team sport, sometimes you get one or two players who don’t work as hard or not everyone is on the same page. In track, if you don’t want to be there, you won’t perform well. You have to push yourself to do better. You have to rely on yourself. It’s a nice break to be out- side and do a more individ- ual sport.” As Remington looks to prepare for a final push toward state, she’s hoping years of dedication and hard work pays off in a big way. “I would be very excited,” Remington said. “To go to the state meet and compete would mean be so much fun for me.” PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP Panthers lose two of three to Silver Foxes Central remains in sole possession of second place in the Mid-Willamette Conference Itemizer-Observer staff report INDEPENDENCE — Central’s baseball team fell out of a first-place tie in the Mid-Will- amette Confer- ence after losing two of three to Silverton. Central hosts the Raiders Wednes- day (today) at 4:30 p.m. be- fore closing out the three- game series at Crescent Val- ley on Friday. “Getting the kids to un- derstand these new series format is we don’t have to sweep,” Miller said. “It’s getting them to understand that, let’s win a series two out of three, and we can’t get swept.
