After Saturday night, one Dragon stands alone amongst the pro- gram’s greatest. Senior Matt Hofenbredl pinned South Albany’s Jor- dan Villarreal in the 132- pound championship match to win his fourth Mid- Willamette Conference district wrestling title, help- ing Dallas win its s i x t h - straight team title. OIliff The Drag- ons finished first out of eight teams with 455½ points. Lebanon was second with 299. “He’s the first to win four,” Dallas coach Tony Olliff said. “He got a little jab at me after he won. He pointed at me and held up three fin- gers, then pointed to himself and held up four.” The number of Dal- las wrestlers to win four Mid-Willamette Conference district titles before senior wrestler Matt Hofenbredl accom- plished the feat on Satur- day night. 0 11 The number of wins in a row the Western Oregon men’s basketball team has recorded. The Wolves’ last loss came on Jan. 1 against Seattle Pacific. The number of games WOU’s men’s basketball team leads Alaska An- chorage by in the Great Northwest Athletic Confer- ence standings. The Wolves have four games remain- ing. 3 It was a rare moment of emotion for Hofenbredl, who now sets his sights on a third state title in four years. “I was confident going (into the district final),” Hofenbredl said. “I wasn’t re- ally worried about it. I just have to take what I know and go from here into state.” Hofenbredl is a man of few words, but since his first practice as a freshman, his drive has become legendary among his teammates. “He likes being the best,” teammate Tyson Janssen said. “He’s put in so much work over all the years. He’s proven a lot and he knows what he’s doing. If he wants this title, he’s going to get this title.” See DALLAS, Page 13A Swinehart remains unbeaten Panthers see six grapplers earn trip to state wrestling tournament State Wrestling Championships What: OSAA Class 5A State Wrestling Championships. And for the 43rd time, Swinehart came away victo- rious, dominating his final match and earning a 13-5 major decision over Dallas’ Tyson Janssen on Saturday night at the Mid0Willamette Conference District Wrestling Championships. “Tanner is so much fun to w a t c h w re s t l e,” Central coach Van Holstad said. “He’s doing it the right way with an ag- T. Swinehart gressive, in your face, scoring style. Tan- ner is a machine.” Swinehart (170 pounds) was one of three district champions as the Panthers earned six Class 5A state berths. Sophomore David Negrete (182) faced stiff competition in his championship match, facing South Albany’s Antho- ny Sutherlin. Negrete pre- vailed for an 8-5 decision, while senior Alberto Meza (195) earned a 5-1 decision over Dallas’ Mathew Thorsted to claim his district title. “David, he’s going to show you something you’ve never seen before in every match,” Holstad said. “He gives that kind of effort every match.
