Freshmen Noah Sickles (113 pounds) and Treve Earhart (152) placed first at the Brunner Invitational. “It was a big weekend for our two emerging fresh- men,” Dallas coach Tony Ol- liff said. “They both had big wins in the finals of the Brunner Invitational.” Matt Hofenbredl (138) also placed first, while Ryan Bibler (106), Nolan Miller (120), Jeff Dunagan (160) and Tyson Janssen (170) fin- ished second. “It was nice to have (Matt) Hofenbredl back in the line- up,” Olliff said. “We are al- ways a better team when he wrestles.” The Dragons began the week by winning three Mid- Willamette Conference dual LUKAS EGGEN/Itemizer-Observer Nolan MIller attempts to break free during the Brunner Invitational at Dallas High on Saturday. meets to start the league season on Friday. Christopher Chavez (132 pounds), Collin Swinehart (145), Gabriel Arreguin (160), Tanner Swinehart (170), David Negrete (182), Riley Olson (195) and Marlon Tuipulotu (285) went undefeated during the dual matches. Central opened its week going 1-2 during three Mid-Willamette Conference dual meets Friday at Dallas. The Panthers defeat- ed Corvallis 41-30 and lost to Dallas 54-25 and Lebanon 44- 24. Central travels to South Al- bany Wednesday (today) for another league dual meet at 7 p.m. PREP SWIMMING ROUNDUP Ford has big day for Dallas Itemizer-Observer staff report DALLAS — Dallas’ boys and girls swim teams lost a nonleague dual meet to Blanchet on Thursday at the Dallas Aquatic Center. The girls squad lost 48-43, while the boys fell 59-34. Sophomore Jolie-Rae Ford finished first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 21.31 seconds, a n d t h e 1 0 0 f re e s t y l e (56.59). She was part of the winning 200- and 400- freestyle relay teams. Elizabeth Dressel won the 100 butterfly (1:10.01) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.63), while Sarah Bonnet took first in the 500 freestyle (7:10.64). Jesse Genualdi won the 100 freestyle in 1:03.71 to help lead the boys team. Lucas Diaz finished first in the 50 freestyle in 24.58 and Ryan Kennedy won the 500 freestyle (6:09.11). The Dragons hosted Cres- cent Valley for a Mid- Willamette Conference meet Tuesday after press time. C E N T R A L B OYS P L AC E SIXTH AT INVITATIONAL: Cen- tral’s boys swim team placed sixth out of 10 teams at the Clemens Invitational at Philo- math on Saturday. Daniel Glade finished third in the 200-yard in- dividual medley in 2 minutes, 27.81 seconds, while Nathan Glade took third in the 100 backstroke (1:09:04). The girls team placed eighth at the Clemens Invitational. The Pan- thers’ 200-yard relay team of Annie Taylor, Catie Miller, Sabri- na Cedillo and Kate Taylor took second at the 10-team event. The relay team finished in a time of 2:20.22. Central opened the week falling to South Albany on Jan. 6. The girls lost 91-77, while the boys fell 127-40. Julissa Amador won the 100 freestyle (1:04.81), Cedillo placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:27.47) and Miller finished first in the 50 freestyle (59.16) for the girls. Daniel Glade placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:31.07) to lead the boys. The boys and girls squads placed third at the Newport Quad on Thursday. SPORTS BRIEFS Dallas youth wins equestrian title DALLAS — David Silver of Dallas has been awarded the American Morgan Horse Association’s Gold Medal in Reining Seat Equitation. Silver, 17, a senior at Perrydale High School, defeated other top performers from across the country to earn the association’s highest equitation honor during the 2014 Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show in Oklahoma City. He qualified for the 2014 Grand National with a first-place finish in the Reining Seat on the Flat Silver Medal class at the Far West Re- gional Morgan Horse Show, held last sum- mer in Redmond. “I set my goal last year after finishing sec- Silver ond in the medal and it’s a really great feel- ing for it to have all come together this year,” Silver said. PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP Mountaineers down Mohawk Itemizer-Observer staff report FALLS CITY — Falls City broke a six-game losing streak on Saturday after de- feating Mohawk 46-30 win. Jesse Sickles scored a game-high 16 points, while Tristan Yeager added 15 points. “It was a barometer for us,” Falls City coach Jim Owre said. “We saw how much we improved and we’re showing the things that we need to show.” The Mountaineers (2-9 overall) began the week by falling to C. S. Lewis 47-35 on Jan. 6 and Crosshill Christian 69-34 on Friday. Falls City plays at Living- stone Academy on Thurs- day before hosting Jewell Tuesday at 7 p.m. CENTRAL DEFEATS ST. HELENS: Central’s boys bas- ketball team ended its non- league season on a high, de- feating St. Helens 55-46 on Friday. Kyler Fleming scored a team-high 13 points, while Kaj Bansen added 12 points. Bansen and Alec Barba scored eight points each in the third quarter, helping the Panthers erase a seven-point halftime deficit. Central opens Mid- Willamette Conference play by hosting South Albany Wednesday (today) at 7 p.m. The Panthers play at Dallas Friday at 7 p.m. PIRATES DROP LEAGUE GAMES: Perrydale dropped a pair of Tri-River Conference con- tests last week, falling to Central Linn 60-52 on Jan. 6 and Regis 41-32 on Friday. Chad Price led the Pirates against Central Linn, scoring 23 points, while Haylen Janesofsky added 17 points. Price also led Perrydale against Regis with 14 points. “You hold a team to 41 points and I think you hope to win more games,” Pirates coach Mike Lowry said. The Pirates played at East Linn Christian Tuesday after press time. Perrydale travels to face Western Mennonite on Friday.
