5 CHRISTIAN HERALD. 1 —lashing him in his silent hours. Think of his blotting out from his soul, all aspirations covering be hind the.x- loutlx «leaf>ai f allMpes- This is alienation, even enmity against God. How poor and wretched must lie the state of such a person, and how inestimably en riched would he be to heed the ad monition, “ Be ye reconciled." Use for Grumbler^ Probably all- things have their use .in this .wurhl, imiLgiumLLuus axul fault tinders are no exception to the rule. It needs one or two dogs to take care of a Hock of sheep. To be sure a whole Hock of dogs would be cl’ little Value. They would produce neither lambs-, wool qr mut ton; but one or two of them serve an excellent purpose. They guard tne Hock, they hunt up stragglers, they raise the alarm when dangers real or fancied- are itear, and they really serve the shepherd’s in terests. So one or two growling, snarling grumblers about a church aid wonderfully in keeping things inorder. They may be unreason able, the.yinayTn themselves seem unprofitable; neither Heece nor milk can be expected from them; but their growls warn men away from danger, their snarling and muttering serves to keep people on the alert, and at a safe distance. Many a man has had great reason to thank God for the slanders and lies that have been told about him, and which have stimulated him to constant watchfulness that he might prevent their ever coming true. So, good friends, if yoi| can’t be sheep, I m ? <tbgs, and keep up your yelping ; it may keep sheep in the fold, if “it does not keep the wolves odt; and in the end may see that all things have their use, and that all things work together for good to them that love God — Set. What Love Can Do. _________ ,1 As a matter of fact, there is no motive principle of life which can compare in the results wrought on man’s nature with this realized love of God in Christ Jesus. There are no such noble characters in al history as in the annals of Christi anity.
