When various members of tho committee were asked as to the character of tho display they replied that the exhibit of Bohemia ores to be displayed at tbe Mining Congress in Portland next week will be fully up to tbe expectations of our com mittee. The ores will be a fair rep resentation of the different minerals of Bohemia’s production and no flowery samples will be put forward as is usually the case. The congress will be composed principally of mining men who know the different kinds of ores, and we think it is the desire of the various parties who have made selections for this display to make it a general exhibit aud not one of specimens. He is a veterinarian and comes from Repub lican City, Nebraska, where he has been practicing for some time as a veterinary surgeon. Mr. Korinek is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College (full course). At this institution gradu ates are required to complete one year’s active practice, half of which must be under direction of a gradu ate, before receiving their “ sheep skin” or diploma after final exami nations The Ontario Medical Society awarded a certificate of honorable fellowship to Mr. Korinek upou his graduation. He will establish himself in his chosen profession in Cottage Grove, where he has relatives, his parents being Mr. and Mr Frank Korinek of the Central Hotel. Copies of the list of premiums for tbe District Fair at Eugene Sept. 20th to 24th may be bad at the Office of the Leader. There are upwards of 1200 tons of gold stored in the vaults of the United States treasury. It is the greatest amount of tbe metal ever boarded. Four hundred tons of this metal were piled like bags of salt within the walla of the sub-treisury in Wall street, New York, but of late this has been somewhat reduced. There is in circulation at least 1200 (Senator Veatch has at his home on River street a huge vine of Concord grapes, which in size and quanity tend to prove that grapes under proper care and cultivation can be success fully grown in Oregon. On a small arbor on the south side of Ills home he has a vine full set with the fruit which is tiow large and thickly cluster ed. There are no less than three hun dred bunches on this trellis. Senator Veatch says he cut the vines heavily, leaving but one runner from each sec tion of the vine. Thinning out and opening up the vine to the sun, he claims, is the reason for the heavy growth.
