There are three distinct veins in the property, and the coal is of an excellent quality, carrying from 57 to 62 per cent of fixed carbon. In a short time the company expects to be producing 500 tons o f coal a day and when fully equipped a daily production of 1000 tons is anticipated. The Jennings Brothers purchased the property upon the recommen dation of Professor Moss, of London, the famous coal expert, who esti mated the property to contain not less than 40,000,000 tons of coal. While establishing offices in Chicago the Jennings Brothers will continue to make Portland their home, as they still retain extensive mining interests in this state and in Alaska. The furniture firm of Cochran A Lauder moved into their commo dious new quarters, the building re cently built ou main street almost opposite tbe Lurch resideuce prop erty by John D. Cochran, the senior member of the firm. The building is 26x50 feet with a 26x50 foot ad dition which is used for a cabinet shop and store room.
