ADVOCATES FARMERS FOR STATE LAW MAKERS Eugene, Oregon, R t 3, Aug. 26,1914. Editor Leader, Dear Sir: Kindly allow me space t^ draw the attention o f your farm er readers to the meet ing that is to be held in the cir cuit court room in Eugene on Sept 5th at 1:30 for the purpose of placing in nomination four farmers to represent Lane coun ty in the next legislature. The farm ers o f the state are in a large majority, but they have always been in a beautiful minori- ity in the legislature. Let anything come up like a trespass law or anything to bene fit the farmer, and the committee promptly pigeonholes i t I f the farmers o f Lane county unite this year and vote as one man for their own candidates, the state will follow suit next elec tion and we will have enough farmers on the committees to take care of our interests. W e shall choose our men or women by an eliminating ballot. There will be no candidates run ning after office and no time wasted in speeches till we have selected the men or women we wish to represent us. W e hope to have many ladies present, for no one has a better right to be heard than the farm er’s wife. There will be a meeting o f the Farm ers’ Protective Association in the Commercial Club rooms at 10:00 a. m. the same day, to con sider means to obtain more direct methods o f disposing o f our pro duce, so w e can get better prices — something on the order o f our Fruit G row ers’ Association. W e shall also take up the matter of protecting our stock and fences against trespassers in pursuit of game. The moral effect o f our Association did a great deal in this direction last year and m more united effort will accomp lish more this season.
