In a resolution adopted by the Salem Board of T rade July 1st tentative plans ware placed in operation by w hich Salem, and all of the station for an expert in structor in agriculture. T he duties of the expert farm m an will be to instruct Marion county farmers along lines of inexpensive and profitable farm ing by improving overladen soil and dem onstrating the proper method of planting the same. Th« instructor will be under the direction of the Salem Board of T rade and the Corvallis A gricul tural college. A salary of $2200 a year was voted and the govern ment departm ent of agriculture has agreed to bear half of this expense. T he other portion of the am ount will be met ‘by farm ers and the Board of T rade in the event a "F a rm e r's clu b ” can be success fully organized in the county.— Statesm an.
