WANTED— A MAN FOR MAYOR The Portland Telegram inquires: “ is there a more crying need in the City of Portland today this: Many than Wanted— A man for mayor? people are beginning to ask the question, but no one seems able to answer it. There was never a time in our whole municipal history when the need was so great, so pressing, so seemingly difficult of solution. The man should be one that the people know or that enough of them know to vouch for. First o f all and before every other consideration, he should be a man of character. This does not need to imply that he should be an active member of a church or a faddist or specialist in any of the great questions which have lately been up for public consideration. On the other hand, the fact that he is a man of good moral character should not be regarded as a fatal defect or an element that would hamstring him in his race for pub lic favor.
