It is boosting, not boasting that counts. ____________ T here is plenty of work for the Oregon legislature. It is now Governor West, he h aving been inaugurated today. T he Cottage G rove high school basket ball squad are setting a lively pace and thus far are strangers to defeat, an unconquor- able host, as it were. Last week they met in this city the crack E u gene high school squad and trailed the visitors colors in the m ud, the score resulting 16 to Id, in favor of Cottage Grove. From this place the visitors went to Roseburg aud A shland where they defeated both high school team s. T he lineup and score was as fol lows: EUGENE Mr. E ditor:—T h e political bosses of W all street, in a score ot states scattered from the A tlantic to the Pacific will do well to read Daniels interpretation to the King of the Rabylonian Em pire. We must search the history of oriental n a tions to find a parallel of the co n quests of W all street by the aid of their corrupt bosses who have rep resented the privileged corpora tions in the senate an d in congress. T he splendor and m agnificence of the home of the M organheim s and G uggenheim s are but imlluted m onum ents of the political ch a ra c ter and career of such senators as A ldrich, Lodge an d Depew, who have officiated as the am bassadors of W all street, in search oT more plunder for the insatiable greed of their m asters: ' O ur halls of con gress have been thronged with counsellors and legislators whose gorgeous apparel an d livery pro claim them em issaries of the privi leged classes, who are as destitute of conscience as they are of moral courage and character. These political parasites m ust be utterly destroyed, the work of e x term ination com m enced here in Oregon (a s well as m any other states) at the late election and prosecuted with such substantial results th at every tru e dem ocrat may hope to see the last viper of special privilege routed in every state in the union at the next en counter in 1912. T h e depravity of the m alefactors of all the predatory trusts is m ade visible to the whole nation by the unfolding of the m onstrous d is honesty aud crim in al conduct of the su g ar tru st. W all street p i rates have a system of bi partisan politics w hich can no longer d e ceive the A m erican people. H istory will be searched in vain to find an in stan ce in w hich such pirates, entrenched in precedent, in custom , and in political power have ever v oluntarily surrendered or m ade restitution to the people of the rig h ts of w hich they have been despoiled. T h e iron jaw s of W all street monopoly of public franchises will relax only when they are broken by the action of an intelligent and united people.
