EXCELLEN T MAP AND WRITE UP. T he Southern Pacific has issued a most excellent m ap of Oregon, copies of which have been received by the Leader. It is rated as the most com pre hensive aud com plete m ap everpub- lished in large quantities, aud the review of the sta le ’s resources on the reverse side has been compiled w ith the utm ost care. T he publication m ade its first appearance at the great L aud and Irrigation Exposition recently held in Chicago, aud the dem and for it was am azing. We speak of this fact not merely to lau d the folder, but to em phasize the almost in sat iable hunger everywhere for tru st worthy inform ation about Oregon, and the increasing ueed for united effort on the part of O regouians to satisfy th a t hunger. T he railroad com panies respon sible for this publication have in augurated a cam paign of world wide scope to place it in the hands of every person who is anxious to know about Oregon, and we feel confident th a t Oregon Commercial clubs and new spapers can be relied upon for effective support in this worthy cause— the exploitation of O regon’s resources and advantages. They have already dem onstrated that they are here to iuvest their money, establish homes aud give Cottage G rove people the best pos sible light an d power service for their money and Cottage G rove citizens have dem onstrated the fact th a t they will give them a square deal in return. T he assessment shows 88,000 less sheep in Crook county this year than last year. T h e ran g e is be ing settled up by farm ers who will raise w heat, hogs and fruit, for which th a t district is well adapted. T he days of the sheep herder and cow boy in Oregou are about over. T he troubles between the ra il roads aud the 78,000 conductors | aud train-m en have been adjusted, 0 he employes to receive a ten per ' cent advance in wages.
