AN D ESS—At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. I.andess, in Last Cottage Grove, Wednesday night, Dec. 15,1909, their daugh ter, Miss Laura, aged 27 years, of tuberculosis. Deceased was a most estimable young lady who had a host of friends here where she has resided from girlhood. She graduated from the Cottage Grove high school with the class o f 1904 and there after took a teachers preparatory course of study at F.ugeue, her health failing soon thereafter she went to Neveda and remained for a while. But her health gradually failed up to the time of her death, which occured very suddenly Wednesday night. Funeral ser vices were conducted from the family home this afternoon at 2 o’clock, by Rev. Elkins, iuterment in the Masonic cemetery. At the church parlors of the Methodist church, Tuesday even ing, Dec. 21st, after the transact ion of the regular monthly busi ness, the following program will be rendered. Mrs. Emma Best sold her house hold goods to Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Harrington Monday and will give up her lease on the cottage oc cupied by her on Fifth street to them. Mrs. Best will soon go east to visit her aged mother whose health is failing. Mr. Harrington is oue of the parties interested in the recent purchase of the city dray business from Mr. Kayser. Salem's chief of police is re quested to resign on the grounds that he winks at the violation of law in that city. If true, he should be kicked out of office. In Tuesday’s Leader it was in tended to state that the New Venske two story brick had been completed by W. F. Hart and turned over to the “ painters,” but our types made it read, turned over to the “ plasterers.” A rich strike‘has been reported in the North Fairview mine at Bo hemia. Laveue, the painter, and wife, returned home from Puyal lup, Washington, Thursday where Mr. I.avene has been engaged in house painting for several months. He says we do not know anything about freshets and snow down here. Up in Washington he says many farms were ruined by the early high waters which was fol lowed with from 10 to 18 inches of snow.
