Our work never to be done over, and we live ui> to our con trails W e undertake any kind of p|unihin£, gas or heating that is Known to modern building methods. We employ the best workmen and personally super vise all work. has DANGERS LURKING IN THE OPEN WELL Kditor I,cailer— The condition in which 1 find water received from various parts of tlu state warrants my calling the attention of the public to the uusauitary conditions which must exist surrounding their water supply. Some samples of water taken in sterile bottles under anteseptic precautions, contain as high as 63,580 germs per cubic centimeter ( a teaspoon holds about five cubic centimeters of water and an ordinary drinking glass about 225 cubic centimeters). A glass- full of such water would therefore contain 14,305,500 liviug germs. While it is true that many varie ties of these germs are not directly disease producing, the continued introduction o f such large quanti ties of them into the system lowers vitality and increases susceptibility to the disease producing types when they gain access to the body. Water containing so many organ isms carries also, in solution, the ptomaines from the putrefaction of the orgauic matter in which they grew. These large numbers of organisms generally find their way into open wells by surface drainage and where they can pass, so may the disease producing types pass also. The waters from driven wells are comparatively free from organisms. An open well is an abomination and is not in keeping with our preseut understanding of the laws of sanitation. 1 Phillips Brothers | I S VC^V-«VWV<i< -N,X^^VVVVVV5 Professional Cards. ß 1 W T M . C. Beaulieu & Woodard REAL ESTATE i DEALS PROMPTLY EFFECTED : A good WKM.- The question arises, how can we better our condition? Where a well is the only means of obtaining water, let it he dug to the water bearing stratum, wall it up with brick laid in cement, for ten feet, arch it over, with the pump-pipe and arch well cemented in, fill the remainder of the hole, which may be fifteen to twenty feet, with clay well tramped down, and the result will be a bottomless brick jug, deep under ground, into which no sur face water, worms nor animals can penetrate. The water from such a well is as pure as can he obtained from the locality in which it is situ ated. Fashion Stables Ponttryman s Alphabet Advertising is the stepping stone to success. Be thankful to get any prizes at all without expecting anything. Choose your variety and jump in. Discard the narrow-breasted, long-legged ones. They are a de lusion and a snare. Every neglect has its cost in poultry raising. Fatty meat should never he fed laying stock. Gentleness is virtue in the poul try yard. Have an object in view and then I work strictly to line. Indifferent care will ruin the ca pacity of any breed. Johnny cake is a good feed— if you want to become a slave to your chicks. Keep on advertising. Let the comb act as your health barometer. Mix carbolic acid with keroseue for the roosts and don’t neglect to use it. Nothing is better for growing stock than dry bran. Overcrowded quarters mean dis ease. death and disaster. Profit ill any kind of poultry breeding comes from having the best. Quite a few dollars can be made in poultry if you have enough sense. Read all you can lay hands on regarding poultry breeding and then use your own common sense. Scratching hens lay the eggs. Trap nests expose the fradulent hens. Utility means more Ilian symme try, shape and feathers. Vigor and vitality are the factors that make money. Working hens, like working people, are the healthiest and easiest to get aloug with. Xanthous-legged fowls are mar ket-toppers. Vou cannot expect to keep your culls and capture the cups.
