popular vote in 1910:
“ A good deal of surprise was
expressed when the Tim es stated
th at the creation of the county of
N esm ith would be ratified by the
lieople under the referendum law.
Now comes the O regonian and
says it will support the m easure.
We learn by inquiry th at a good
m any in this part of the county
will favor the m easure, while
others are indifferent as to the out
come. ■ We would regret to see the
county divided an d we would also
regret to lose Cottage G rove aud
her good people, but at the same
lime, they can present an argu
ment th at will be pretty hard to
overcome and argum ents th a t will
appeal to the voters at la rg e .”
