Deceased was born on the Van W inkle farm near H alsey, Linn county, Oregon, Dec. 23, 1884. H e grad u ated from the public schools of H alsey, and in 1904 en tered the preparatory departm ent of W illam ette university. F rail health , however, had caused him to discontinue his studies for the p ast eighteen m onths, living an outdoor life m eantim e, until the opening of the last school year, when he re-entered the m edical de p artm en t of the college. A bout a m onth since he suffered a hem orrh age of th e lu n g s and h as since de clined rapidly.
