XX. NO 3a OLD SOLDIER FOUND DEAD JACKSON ORCHARD SELLS FOR BIG SUM Shortly before noon F riday Dr. E. E. B. Pickel signed the papers which transferred his famous “ 401" ranch, northwest of this city, to C. W . Perkins, B. G illm an, J . S. Cannon of San I'rancisco and I. M. Roessler of Fresno. T he consideration was $110,000. T he deal was handled by Bert Auder- sou and VV’es Green. For some three m ouths the deal has lieeu pending. T he new owners have lieen looking for a large holding and decided T h u rs day afternoon th at they would purchase the “ 401.” They will take possession in the near future. Dr. Pickel was the first m an to show his faith in the “ stick y ” by investing in the "4 0 1 .” H e 1 »ought the place an d planted it to fruit, and the result is known. It consists of 561 acres of land, of which 335 acres is in fruit. O rig inally the ¡»lace contained 401 acres, giving it its nam e, but later 160 acres were added to it. Marcola. Or., Nov. IK.— Louis Renninger, well kuow n farmer and old soldier of near this place, was found dead lying face down ward in his son's barn at 6:30 this evening, bv Mr. Fioch aud Cecil Calkins. Acting on advices from Coroner Gordon, last evening, Justice Mc- Kibben of M arcola went to the Renninger place to inquire into the death of Mr. Renninger. After a careful inspection of the premises and an exam ination of deceased, the justice m ade his re port to Mr. Gordon at Kugene by telephone, which was to the effect that no m arks of violence ap peared on the person of the de ceased aud th at death was u n doubtedly due to n atural causes. Dr. Pollard pronounced the case one of heart failure. Accordingly Mr. Gordon gave o ut a statem ent to the effect th a t he would hold no autopsy unless by special request of the family. Mr. Renninger was last seen alive at 3:45 p. ui. T uesday by Al bert Pioch. At th at tim e deceased was feeding the chickens at the John Renninger place. T he wife and daughter of decedent were on a visit and he was batching. John had just moved to Coburg, leaving the span of mules, chickens, etc. in his father’s care. On T uesday evening Cecil C alkins went to the barn in quest of Mr. Renniuger, but the w atch dog would not let him enter, so he called to the old gentlem an, hut received no re sponse. Fearing th a t all was not well Cecil conveyed his fears to Mr. Pioch aud together they re paired to the barn. After a search they cam e upon the prostrate body of Mr. Renninger, who was lying on his face hack of the stall aud near the heels of the mules. Deceased was a well know n tneml»er of J. VV.
