Patrick Braiinigan had contract ed to dig a well in the sandy part of Cottage Grove recently aud he had dug down some forty feet when ou coming to work one morning he found that the last twelve feet of his well had caved in and would have to be dug out again. He sat down by the well to wait for his helpers when happy thought struck him. He arose, took off his coat, hung it up in plain sight, hid his tools and walked away. A few minutes later his helpers came and, find ing Pat’s coat and seeing that his tools were gone, came to the con clusion that their boss was buried under the fallen sand and, with the help of all the neighbors im mediately set to work to dig him out. Trained advertisers edit the catalogues, and thought and care must be used in preparing the copy for the paper or its space is wasted. If the catalogue was in the house only a few weeks in the year it would not do much good, because when the purchaser had the money and could not find the catalogue there would lx* no trade. It is the same way with the liter chant advertising in his home paper He must keep his goods before the purchaser all the time to compete successfully with the catalogue. These facts can be denied, but while they are being denied there are a great number of mail order houses raking in fortunes through the medium of their advertising catalogues.
