I'orly-five years ago it took The Morning Oregonian four days to reach Cottage Grove by the swift est methods of available. conveyance then Now. by virtue of the recent change in the Southern Pa cific time table, it reaches this busy little town in time for breakfast on the morning of publication the same time it is being read by Port land citizens. This is something of a change, and it is a change in the right direction. , T . K. Wynne Hardware Company Gasoline Engine Irrigation, Spraying and Pumping Machinery Th e voters of Springfiel.d pre- ciuct will have an opportunity on June 1, to vote for a man for coun ty Judge whose home and interests are not altogether in Eugene, but who, if elected, will do justice to all parts of the county and see that improvements are made where they are needed whether Eugene is di rectly beuefitted or not. W e have in such a man, J. W . Baker, who is a candidate for County Judge on the Democratic ticket. The people in this section of the county will support Mr. Baker almost to a man because o f the great dissatis faction that has arisen over the ad ministration of our present judge. Th e condition of the roads that lead to Springfield from the north and east are sufficient cause for the voters of this precinct to lie up in arms and fight the entire county court, 'file road question is one that should lie seriously considered and from the past we know that our repeated requests for improve ment have lieen completely ignored aud that roads leading into Spring- field iu different ways are a little better than a hog wallow. The in terests of our present judge seems to lie confined entirely to Eugene and he cannot Ire made to realize that there are taxpayers outside the county seat that are entitled to some consideration. Mr. Baker is a mau of good sound judgment, refined, well educated aud has had considerable experience in county road building. From reputation and personal acquaintance we know him to be a man who will d i vide his attention to the different jMtrts o f the county aud not con fine his entire time holding down the chair in his office. Besides Mr. Baker is practically a poor man and is deserving o f the office, while the present itirumlieut is in no way de)iendenl on his monthly salary. W e want a man who is perfectly comjietent to fulfill the duties of the office, and the man who will take an interest iu the welfare of the community at large, and we believe that the voters of this precinct will tell by their vote June 1. that Mr. Baker is the pop ular choice.— Springfield News.
