Jesse Bounds of Eugene and I.. B. Canfield of Cottage ('.rove have just purchased 160 acres of land on the north fork of the Siuslaw river, two miles from Florence, from Mr. Bounds' father, J. A. Boil lids and they will engage in the business of raising cranlierries on the Jo acres of marsh land on the tract. Mr. Bounds returned Saturday from Corvallis, where the deal for the land was closed with his father, who resides there, says the Eugene Guard: Mr. Bounds stated that lie and Mr. Canfield will begin setting out cranberry plants at once and they will lx* bearing within two years from the time they are set out. They will not set the entire marsh to the berries this year, but will gradually increase the acreage un til the Jo acres are covered with the vines. This marsh is very similar to those on Coos Bay and in T illa mook county, where the lierrv is extensively grown and profitably marketed, and the promoters of the enterprise on the Siuslaw see no reason why they cannot make a success of the venture.
