The lesults of an experim ent, which
for the past fifteen years has been in

March and A p ril, or that one year of
an average low temperature is apt to
be follow ed by a year in which the
temperature w ill average higher.
Profees, r George Severance now h ie
the com pilation of the weather data in
charge, and states the eummailxation
of results as follows:
" F o r the past fifteen years the ex
perim ent station has kept a close rec
ord of the temperature of eaffi day of
the year, striking an average between
the temperature of morning and oven-
ing, which we call the ‘ mean tempera
tu re.’ H aving kept the record for a
month the custom has then been to get
the average ‘ mean’ for the
entire
month. In this way w e have com

and we find that the variations from
the rule for determ ining what the tem
perature o f spring w ill be by the tem
perature o f w inter, of one year by aver
aging the temperature of another, are
■o frequent that it ie proved that the
weather of one year or month, or sev
eral months, is absolutely no index to
what subsequent temperatures w ill b e ."
