Let me emphasize the necessity of thorough work. It has been my observation and my own experience that poor work is but little better than no work. I am much pleased with the work that has been done during the short time of my duties as inspector. Mauy orchards have been cleaned up, pruned, sprayed aud cultivated, and there is a marked improvement in condition of the orchards and quality ot fruit. There is yet room for much improvement and I would ask your co-operation in this work that we may accomplish what the law intended. 4 LURCH’S A C H A N C E ON THAT IWAGON V IK IN G SYSTEM With each f»Oe parchase of hoys wearing appar el we jiivc you it ticket. Pri vates Cochran, Bartels, Simeral, Potts, Baker, Gouriey, who all passed a creditable examination with efficiency in the order named. There only being four vacancies the first four names were immediately appointed to their positions, the other two passing so good an exam ination, on recommendation of the Colonel will be appointed Corpor als as soon as vacancies occur. After the contest Col. Geo. O. Yoran presented the regimental trophy to Company E which was won by them in the recent rifle con test. Col. Yoran in his presenta tion speech said that he did not re joice in taking the cup from Hose- burg whete it had been kept bo long, but be was very much pleased to band it to the youngest company in tbe regiment. Captain Johnson received the trophy for tbe com pany in a few words of pride that was shared in by the members of the company. Tbe banquet followed which was attended by the members and in vited guests. Speeches from Col. Yoran, Major C. C. Hammond, Capt. Johnson, J. S. Sacramento Bar Ready to Contest Legislation in Court. Sacramento, Cal., Nov. 27 .—At a large meeting of the Sacramento Bar Association held today, with oue voice in the negative only, it was decided that the special holiday legislation is vicious dangerous and unconstitutional and a eommitee was appointed at once to institute proceedings to bring the subject be fore the Supreme Court. The reasons advanced for the judgment of the meeting are: It is special legislation; it does not operate unitormly and equally; it gives remedies to one class and denies them to another; the courts derive their jurisdictional power from the constitution, not from the statutes. Besides being special and class legislation, the association de cided the acts trespass upon the 14tn amendment »0 the' Federal Constitution, which says that no citizen shall be denied the protec tion of the laws. a is m Bank of Cottane tSrovc C ap ital Stock, $25 ,0 0 0 .0 0 fpw CEN TRAL O REGO N STATE NORMAL SCHOOL Drain, Oregon.
