The 1907 state fair is a thing of
the past, and it proved to be the
moat successful from every point of
view in the history ot Oregon. Din
ing the whole time there has been
no serious complaints and not one
word of auverse criticism has been
heard from pres or public. Every
one seemed pleased and satisfied,
and we may look for a greatsr ex
position next year. The vast im
provements in buildings and
grounds, and the better accommo
dations was highly appreciated both
by visitors and exhibitors, and the
fair management is highly praised
for ita excellent work. Saturday,
the last day, proved a most suc
cessful wiud-up. There was a large
attendance and the visitors were
treated to a splendid program.
A DOUBLE RLOTTION

On Monday night the hrc audi

a double purpose; to give Kov.

and a welcome to his successor Kev

lvcv. Olson leaves on Thursday
for Kugene, where he enters the
Divinity school to complete his
course. Kev. Olson has been in

and has gained the love and respect
of not only the members of the
church, but of nil with whom ho

The Oregon State Fair at Salem
last week was a record breaker in
point of attendance, and the speed
contests were the best in the his
tory of the fair and aroused even
more enthusiasm than when pools
were sold. The twelve new sfables
which housed the splendid live
stock exhibit were visited by many
thousands, there being as many la
dies as men present. The displays
of products of the soil were up to
those in quality shown at the Lewis
& Clark Exposition, and the crowd
was admirably handled.

Eugene Depot to be one of Very Finest
Local contractors have received
notice from the Southern Pacific
company that bids for the erection
of a one-story brick depot building
in Kugene will be opened on Octo
ber 12. Several weeks ago Mana
ger O'Brien made an absolute
promise to a committee of Eugene
business men who called upon him
that Eugene was to hae a new de
pot and that work would begin be
fore January 1. It was anuounced
that $12,000 would be expended on
the building, but now it is reported
that the company will put twice
that sum into the structure. The
plans for the new building have not
yet been seen, but it is said the de
pot will be one of the finest on the
coast.
