That Lorane Wild Man.

Mr. Hardy Crow of I.orane, Ore.,
called at the Nugget orhce and gave
an interesting and accurate report
of tbe burglar that haso bothered
the Irane p 'oj-1 .
The mau was first seen about
January 1. going bom house to
house beg'i'1-' for food. His first
appeai ance to cause alarm was at
Mrs. Powell's home where he de
manded something to eat. The
mother be ing away teaching school
the children were badly frightened.
The people prevailed upon the roan
to go away, lut he came back often

Ou March 1. he went to Richard
Crow's home and after taking some
"bread and fi nit he stole a gun and
a knife and searched tbe drawers of
the bureau and the clock for money.
Constable Crow and a party ot four
men went in fearch of him. look
ing in and watching all the cabins.
They found him in the Gibson
cabin. He escaped from there and
was next heard of near John Addi
tion's farm, having sto'en some
meat fiom the smoke house on that
pluce.
The seat oh party followed and
was informed by Mr, Conant that
bis children had seen the man in
the vacant Smizer cabin not far
from Coinnt's farm.
The constable, making sure he
was iu tbe cabin, surrounded the
place and ordered the man to come
out and give himself up. The
jnnn replied that he would not and
said directly to the constable, who
wan nearest they cabin, ''I'll fix
you." A inoineut later he peered
around the coiner of the cabin, llis
gup raised ready to shoot. The
posse string his intention, immedi
ately opened fire, and he re-entered
the house.
However, he escaped again and
owing to the dense bushes and
rough ground they were unable to
track him. Later they got word
from Mr. firay that his smoke

search parly went hence. Two
men were stationed at the Gibson
cabin and while tbu nnijoiitv of the
party were at Grays, he came to
this cabin. Mel vil Fenwick, one
of the men sta'.ioned there at
tempted to capture him and after
inllicting a wound, which they
thought to be fatal he went back of
the cabin, haying reason to think
there were more than one mm in
the vicinity. The wound proved
to" be slight and the burglar es
caped through the window, which
was found out later by the search
party and nothing has been heard
ol him since.
It is 4 the prevailing opinion of
the Uoraife people that there are
other men 'implicated with this
man and intend to keep a sharp
lookout for any one of them.
