Should be Located in One County Bohemia Mining District i situ ated in Lane and Douglas Coun ties. Ore-son, It is ro( a new min eral field. Nearly forty-five years ago the first stamp mill ever built in Oregon was shipeJ to Portland by water ard on up the Willamette river to i:gene, from there by team to Co'tage Grove and on to one oi the highest points on Grizzly i-ionr'aba in Bcihemia by wcrecs, go devils, pack animals, etc. thirty- j Eve miles d;stact. 1 his ai l now stands on the Vesuvius ground. Mining his been carried cn c-on-tinua'.lv, properties have been held by some' persons thirty and forty years, and many prospects have been hsld and worked ten to fifteen years and more by the same owners who have had satisfactory evidence of great values but not sufficient tneaDs to do extensive work and no possible way of getting their small portion of ore to market, or sup plies in. except by great expense, and fctill confidence in tho district and the encouraging appearance ot more god ore. Every year as the ten feet (assessment work) is done, the hopeful and enthusiastic claim owner hangs on, works out for a grab stake and back he go's to the spot where his only hopes are cen tered, and where he can see Dame Fortune smiling. This is no drefim, in Bohemia, the fortunes we there and the confident claim holder is still there wishing for relief and hanging on to the glittering edges of the recks almost by his teeth praying lor help. A few roads aud the" right kind of encouragement and better days would be soon at hand. Public sampling works, concen trator and smelting men have vis ited the district fre piently, and are all satisfied with what they ee but the little encouragement they re ceive on the outside and the con dition of the few roads, drives them elsewhere and loaves the for tunate, (though unfortnnrte) claim owner with the few t' re of valuable ore on Ids hands, and in no way to realize its value, so as to enable him to continue his work on a lar ger and more steady f-eale. Lane County ha constructed a good uhgon road to the district, t he miners have constructed about fifteen miles of good roads, con necting some of the mines, partly In Lane an'l partly in Doughs County Douglas county has not built one foot of road or contributed one penny to benefit the Bohemia Dis trict, and it is rumored that tbey aro aiming to strike a heavy blow to the long Buffering prospectors and miners, that have been striv ing to develop this section of the common-wealth of tLat countj, by unjust und unheard f taxation. very small portion of the dis trict lies in Douglas County, there is a little taxable property in both counties. Election precincts must bo provided in both counties and each election, bearers of ballot boxes have to etait out and go to Cottage Grove miles) together, then one oes no th to Eugene, the other south to Roseburg, at heavy ox penne to some one. There is no way to get to tbe county went of Douglas County except by wagon road built bv Lane County to Cot tage Grove. What is wanted i to get the whole district in one county, so that one county can be looped upon for necessary encour agement and looked to with pride and pleasure as our friend, in bring iug to pass a greater mining king dom than baa yet teen witnessed in Oregon. Now don't get sou d und jealous:- It is not here yet. and unless conditions cut be chmged it will be foily live Jturs more ;udsoii, m.mnvet of the pottlind Cominoivi.il Club. -Win never u , O 'louist rate e.oos into etT. et ii'ul is !
